Premier League Clubs Watching Cresswell
Sunday, 6th Oct 2013 11:46

Premier League sides are continuing to show interest in Blues left-back Aaron Cresswell with Southampton, Fulham and West Brom having sent scouts to watch 23-year-old in action in recent weeks.

Cresswell was linked with numerous Premier League clubs in the summer but with none firming up their interest.

Manager Mick McCarthy has said on a number of occasions that he believes the Liverpudlian is "the best left-back in the Championship".

Former Tranmere man Cresswell is contracted to the Blues until June 2015 with his deal including an option for a further season.

Meanwhile, Town's U18s were beaten 1-0 at Brentford yesterday, while the U16s were defeated 2-1 by the Bees.

Hope I'm wrong but unless we pull off a miracle and get promoted I reckon he is gone in the summer :/ Most likely to Southampton after they cash in on Luke Shaw.

I hope they chose yesterday as the game to watch him as it was probably his worst game in an Ipswich shirt!

His distribution was shocking yesterday. Both he and (dare I say it) Hyam were poor. Let's hope Cresswell isn't starting to believe all the hype?

Baines >> Man Utd
Cresswell >> Everton

As much as I would not like to see Cresswell leave, it could give McCarthy the funds to bring in 2 or 3 quality additions. Much like when Dyer moved on and we brought in Wright, McGreal and Stewart.

All this hype is probably affecting his game, he certainly won't be immune to it. The club should issue a "hands off" statement till the end of the season so that Cressy & Mick can get on with the job in hand.

If a good offer comes in the club should let him go. Don't get me wrong, he's good player but certainly not irreplaceable. With the poor financial state of the club I doubt we will hold onto him.

Cresswell will not sign a new contract if there are decent Premiership sides sniffing around and the Club will have to sell whilst they can still get a fee for him.

I fear he may go in Jan but, if not, he will be gone in the summer!

@Taricco_Fan - wonder if you would like to share who we could replace him with? If I'm not mistaken, he's been effectively doing the job of a left back and attacking midfielder this season.

Whilst I appreciate the sentiment that the funds could bring in a couple of decent players - we shouldn't under estimate how valuable Cresswell is to us. Without any decent wide players losing him severely limits our creative output.

Homer 123....
Spot on he's done two maybe three jobs our midfield is poor il prob get slated but hyam is so so average more I see of him the more he looks like leadboots but with out the shooting ability if stick tunnicliffe in the middle with skuse Anderson with cressy on the left mings at left back and nouble could be ball boy

Tractorboyz82 you wont get slated by me regarding your comments abouthyam, completely agree with you, he is a defensive minded midfielder and is not capable of becoming the attacking creative midfielder people are wanting him to be!!! This is why he is struggling this season. His job is break up the play and give the ball simple. People are also blinkered by the fact he is " one of our own " 1 goal in a town shirt proves he is not forward thinking in any way. Get him doing the job he is good at, covering the back four. Creating chances and scoring goals is not his game

When Cresswell is sold believe me all the money will go straight to Marcus Bloody Evans and on a penny on team building

Isn't Hyam doing that job anyway Jimmy86?

I thought we all want our own players to come up through the ranks and play in a town shirt? We seem to be desperate for Marriot to get a game for that reason. Hyam's done well so far this season and given he's only 21 we need to be building the side around players of this age for the future if our club because he's only going to get better and better.

Cresswell is absolutely quality, I would love to see him stay but i have to agree with most comments on this post that if good Premier League clubs are looking at him he won't want to turn it down. In the last few weeks apart from yesterday he has really played well. I hope no one sent scouts to Derby because that would make a club very keen to step it up. He said he is happy in Ipswich but we all know how football is these days. If an offer comes in like Connor Wickham i can see the club accepting it and letting Mick bring in some players in more than 1 area. Hope he stays but at this rate i can see clubs in for him in January if not then it will be next summer for sure.

Don't buy into this we could bring in replacements. How many left backs can do the job Cressy is doing for us now as well as him? Don't think you realise just how important he is til he's not in the team. As well as being very solid defensively he's come on leaps and bounds in an attacking sense this season and his delivery has improved a lot hence why he has the most assists in the league. Seems pretty level headed though, obviously wants to play in the prem but he genuinely would like to do it with us, hopefully we can show a bit of promise this season which will be enough to keep him for another year.

Sorry, does this "story" really warrant an entire webpage? We all knew this before we read it, and there's no reason for anyone to worry about him leaving - for at least another 3 months, in the January transfer window. The only thing what was more of, or as equal, a waste of time than reading this piece, is writing a comment complaining how redundant this article is.

Please please please stop churning out rubbish to make the website seem more 'current' - if there's nothing interesting to say, don't say anything...

To follow that the reason I did choose to write the comment (as it does sound a bit hypocritical to write an equally invalid comment) was to ask for more interesting articles - even if there are fewer of them.
