Ferguson Blasts Former Blues Boss Keane
Ferguson Blasts Former Blues Boss Keane
Tuesday, 22nd Oct 2013 16:57

Former Blues boss Roy Keane is the subject of stinging criticism from his old manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the ex-Manchester United chief’s new book, My Autobiography.

In addition to a lengthy analysis of the end of Keane’s time at Old Trafford, Ferguson, 71, gives the Irishman’s stints as manager of Town and Sunderland short shrift.

"His two spells in management proved one thing: he needs money," said the Scot, adding that Keane “came up short” at Town and hasn’t the patience to build a team.

Keane, who was in charge of the Blues between April 2009 and January 2011, later hit back.

The 42-year-old, not the only ex-Manchester United player to come under fire from their old boss, told ITV: "I’m OK, I’m quite relaxed. I won’t lose any sleep over it.’

"I remember having discussions with the manager when we were at the club about loyalty.

"He doesn’t know the meaning of the word. I don’t know how many books he has written now. I guess he will have to draw the line somewhere."

He added: "These players won a lot of trophies for Manchester United. Imagine what he’d have said if we hadn’t won any trophies."

Keane proved he couldn't spot a decent player (Jordan Rhodes)

If only we had have appointment a decent manager instead of Keane to take over Magilton's team (which wasn't far from the play offs), to manage the youngsters like Rhodes and Wickham, and to invest the £11M. We could be consolidating in the Premier League now. Cheers Roy.

Pity this book did,nt come out a few years ago before he got his clueless hands on our club.
Judging by his comments as an itv pundit he still is clueless.

Before MM's appointment, we must have had two of the worst managers in our history. Don't get me wrong, I liked Roy for the exposure he gave the club and for getting us to the LC Semi-final. But overall he was poor and wasted money. Most thought it couldn't get any worse - bring on PJ!

"I liked Roy"

I don't know how any ITFC fan can say that about the man who destroyed our opportunity to get back to the Premier League by wasting Evans money, selling Rhodes, releasing D.Wright, falling out with Walters, playing dour football with four centre backs...he even sent back Andros Townsend!!

Jewell was poor, but not worse than Keane. Jewell saved us from relegation in his first months and he signed Chambers and Cresswell, so at least gets some small credit. What good can be said about Keane?

Ditto Mark.

Jewell came up short but got us some good players and has shown since leaving that his heart was genuinely in it.

Keane on the other hand wasted millions, and seemed intent on sucking the soul out of the club and caused untold damage in his time here. And nothing ive heard from him or about him since can make me see him in any sort of favourable light.

Keane was a very talented thug as a player who proved to lack the skills required to become a talented manager.

Because of his attitude it would appear that there were very many in the world of professional football who would not do business with him and wanted to see him fail. He did his best to please them.

do not agree that he was a world class player

I don't think Roy Keane ever cares what people say about him - as long as they're saying SOMETHING about him at all times.

The sooner ITV ditch him, the better. Stop giving his ego a platform for publicity.

I'd rather see Keane as a pundit as he can't do much damage there. I just hope he keeps himself a long way from coaching -- unless there's a vacancy at Carrow Road, of course.

Add letting Bryan Klug go to that list Mark! A decision that still angers me.

Sir Alex has simply said what we all know yes he was a class player with fantastic skills sadly that's not enough he was he is a thug why waste such talent looks like a local team is about to change manager and I wouldn't even wish him on carrot road in mock we trust and if we lose him hopefully in tc we trust

Keane was the worst manager this football club ever employed, one of his first decisions was to sell jordan rhodes and it did not get any better after that either. Never listen to him on itv I don't want to know what he has to say , he is talking of something he knows practically nothing about

Whilst I refuse to defend Keane in any way, I find the comment by Sir AF slating RK for not having the patience to build a team interesting.

Who has these days? Chairmen want returns for their investment and sack the managers if results go against them. Fans want instant success as witnessed on this site by those who are already moaning at MM and TC for a mid table finish (even though its not even November yet).

Both Keane and Jewell tried to buy success, whether this was their way or whether it was pressure from above I don't know. What we do have now is a manager and directors who appear to be trying to build a team and invest in our youth. Let us the fans also have the patience for them to do it.

I'd have blasted him too. But I would have used a 12 bore instead of written words.

rayman_10. I agree entirely re Klug. Apart from saying that the day that thug was appointed to Manage our club was the same day that I went off Evans, other than that I refuse to waste my thoughts or energy on him.
