McCarthy at Peterborough Watching Taylor
Tuesday, 22nd Oct 2013 20:21

Boss Mick McCarthy was at London Road this evening to watch on-loan Blues striker Paul Taylor in action for Peterborough as they drew 0-0 with Sheffield United.

The 26-year-old made the sixth start of his spell back with Posh and played the full 90 minutes for only the second time.

Town have kept a close eye on Taylor during his time with his old club with chief scout Steve McCall having been at Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury.

Peterborough have two more games before Taylor’s time at London Road is up on November 2nd, a visit to Colchester on Saturday and a home match against League One leaders Leyton Orient the following week.

The O's, following a 3-1 defeat at Coventry this evening, are now only ahead of Posh on goal difference.

I understand from earlier articles Phil that subject to appearances for Town a further large sum will then be due to Peterborough? Assume with Financial Fair Play this sum of money is in the budget. Assume Taylor is now one of the top earners at the club possibly way above the new maximum. Assume Peterborough still have a wedge of cash left from the Dwight Gayle deal. Lots of assumes here, but I am sure Mick is very interested in evaluating whether his budget can possibly be used better in other directions freeing up Taylor's wages and releasing cash for other uses? Probably way off the mark with my speculation .....oh and then of course there is one Sylvan Eubanks Blake.....

Was it just a coincidence that Taylor played the full 90 mins when MM happened to be at the match tonight.

All that way up the A14/A1 and back for a 0-0 draw. The highlight would be stopping at Cambridge Services for a McDonalds.

Good stuff. The sooner we have him back fully fit, the quicker i think we'll start scoring more goals!

He is not micks cup of guiness ,he will be old i reckon. Which is a shame as a run in the side could be the difference between our inability to score in tight games and not. Mick Mills greatest fan

EatonBlue, MM will be more than happy to watch a 0-0 draw-just the sort of game he loves.

Budgie plucker it was reported a few days a go that MM will have money to spend in January.

So where do you get this feeling that he needs to reduce wages from ?

@Fatcatevans

The point is he's a very creative player who can set them up for McGoldrick and Murphy.

Michael if he is so creative how comes Peterborough are not knocking em in and how come he isn't a shining star in a pretty poor team? Just playing devils advocate here!

Mick is obviously looking at the future as a town boss and nothing else. I think taylor is what were missing, having some one with a bit of craft and movement will work magic in our team I believe, onwards and upwards.

There's a whole lot of myth surrounding Taylor. People seem to think he will either score loads or provide countless chances for others. There's no evidence of this. He played a few games for us and added something different, but that's it. MM is a pragmatist and will judge him accordingly.

He's been out for over a year give him a chance for christ sake. By the way bluelady he was man of the match last week...

Michael11. I presume that you mean he'll set them up for Murphy to miss.
If he is to be an answer then Murphy has to be the one he replaces, unless there is someone else in line to do that!

OldClactonBlue, spot on about Murphy lol - perhaps by the time Taylor gets in the team, Marriott will be in the middle to knock them in, but somehow I doubt it

I live and work in Peterborough and have been talking to the Posh fans.
They said he will never get in the Ipswich team after his performance against Sheff United and the Preston game apart from the world class turn and shot which hit the post all he did was moan as it was not going his way.
They think they got very good money for him and he has brought nothing to the side since his return and they are looking forward to Tomlins return.

If he is this brillient player the town fans say he is ( he has only played 3 games for us) then he should be League ones star player.
Really dont think he will bring that much to town and feel he is an average player.

Love that people think he should be setting league one alight!!
He's a good player but he's been out for 11 months! Can't think of too many pros who have spent a year on the sidelines and played blinders 5 games on the bounce during their first starts. Obviously that's the target or challenge though.

I think a lot of Town fans are pinning their hopes on him to push us into the play offs, hopes which may well be short lived. No doubt he adds something different when fully fit but it's up in the air as to whether he'll get back to being the player we saw a glimpse of when he first signed now or ever!
