Still No FAI Approach for McCarthy
Thursday, 24th Oct 2013 09:52

The FAI are still to make an approach to Town regarding manager Mick McCarthy, according to one of this morning’s Irish papers. Reports earlier in the week suggested that a move for the Blues boss would come before the end of this week.

The Irish Independent claims McCarthy, who has said he will neither rule himself in nor out of the running until he is formally asked whether he is interested, is becoming frustrated at the lack of progress.

It’s reported that FAI headhunters Ray Houghton and Ruud Dokter have been given until November 1st to speak to candidates before reporting back, but McCarthy is said to want the process to move along more quickly.

The FAI and Blues owner Marcus Evans already have a working relationship with his THG company providing corporate hospitality at the Aviva Stadium.

McCarthy admitted that frustration was amongst his reactions to the ongoing speculation last week and is unlikely to be pleased that his pre-match press conference ahead of the Bolton game this lunchtime is also set to be dominated by questions about the Ireland job.

According to other sources in Ireland, the Blues boss may eventually make a decision to formally rule himself out to bring the speculation to an end if there continues to be no contact from the FAI.

What a farce this is turning out to be, and nobody seems to give a hoot about the Ipswich fan base,.......... Crazy!

If MM has refused to rule himself in or out, how would the Irish Independent know he's becoming frustrated!? I often wonder at what point of a journalist's career they decide to sell their integrity in order to hit deadlines?

If he won't rule himself out, I say Evans should sack him anyway for disloyalty and to save face. Then get terry oConnor as manager and Ian holloway in as assistant. Mick is a traitor

I have been a big mm fan since he has been at the club !!
However this whole situation and the way he has handled it is poor ..

The longer it drags on the more unsettled the whole club is again ,
And however much mm is to be admired .
The club comes first .

And on the matter of potential new managers please please please ME
If muck goes don't get in holloway .

Cos if he's not got the energy for the palace job we sure wouldn't want him here.

mrivancampo: if you make such ridiculous statements as you have just done, please get TC's surname correct at least, it's Connor.............not O'Connor. I don't believe he's Irish either!
I can't see MM going simply because what will he do for the next 4 years, they have nothing to play for & probably not a huge player-base either. just can't see him going.......simples!

Also annoying is the drivel being written in the Irish press (or Irish American in this case?). Here is one example:

"But the Ipswich fans are currently worried on two fronts.

They are concerned that they are about to lose their manager." Ok so far...

"And they are concerned that speculation about the Ireland job can only damage their hopes of staying in the Championship again. Losing to Burnley at home on Saturday won't have helped on either front."

So losing to 1st place Burnley has apparently damaged our hopes of staying in the Championship?

Please let this sorry saga end.

Think MM is trying to save face with the Ipswich fans, He wants the job but wont say it in case they dont want him.

Really he should say I am staying at Ipswich or I will leave if I am offered the job.

Would say MM and ME have had the conversation and ME would be looking at who is about to take over from MM.

I am disappointed in the way MM has handled things, I think for the better of the club he needs to stay, really do not want a new manager in unsettling things, if MM dose decide to leave, I wish him all the best! super mick McCarthy

MM was forced to resign from his role managing the Republic of Ireland's team. A lot of fans sympathised with Keane and later, poor results, had the Irish press (and 'fans') wanting MM OUT. Considering what he had achieved this was all the thanks he got.

MM would be crazy to go back there.

My guess he would love to be asked back (for pride's sake) just to be able to reject their fickle offer and tell them that he wants to stay where he is appreciated - with a club that has some prospects of getting somewhere - unlike the 'poisoned chalice' job in Ireland, with little hope of making the European Championships, let alone a World Cup.

So much for our straight taking leader. He's done a great job for us but is obviously just using us until a better offer/option comes along.

I would like to see bring in a manager who is committed to the club.

McCarthy won just two Premier League games from 37 tries and lost 31.

He also has the second record for worst season record in the Premiership. Paul Jewell has the worst.

If he did go, we would just be ruling out a comfortable mid table bore.

If Mick does want the job then he has more chance of getting it if he says so in the press. To be honest there is no way i'd hire Mick McCarthy if i could have someone like Guus Hiddink though. I think Mick's obviously not their first choice else they would have approached him weeks ago.

On the flip side, has anyone ever considered that by not ruling himself out of the running and keeping his name in the hat for an offer, it would then give him and TC a stronger bargaining chip to not only improve their current contracts but to get a larger war chest in January for new players and a play-off push?

There's an idiotic assumption among some that MM is disloyal but consider the above as possibly the complete opposite.

Either way, roll on November 1st to get this and the Paul Taylor saga out of the way!

Guys you are all making a mistake listening and reading the press reports. How many times have they been proved to be complete liars. Why should Mick comment when there is nothing to comment about, Mick hates the press and gives very little away to them I wonder why. I'm sure if he make a comment they'd twist it around and we end up with a totally untrue news headline. I personally think if Mick was that keen he'd be knocking on their door already and signing the contract but as expected nothing has been said as there is nothing to report back. Lets get off his back and let him get on with the day to day running of our club

This whole scenario is a farce and MM has to take some of the blame for this. It appears he wants the job but dare not say so in the event of not being aproached and subsequently appointed. The Irish press appear to stirring to pot nicely and the EADT constantly put a negative take on the story as far as us fans are concerned. Perhaps we can gleen something from the ITFC press conference today if the right questions are asked. Somehow think this will roll on until after the weekend.

It's the best time to take over a team like Ireland, with the Euro 2016 being raised from 16 -24 teams, gives them a huge chance of qualifying, they made it to the other one anyway. I don't want MM to go, but it looks like he will as he won't rule himself out, so Evans start getting a list of potential managers together now, so we're not unsettled any longer.

muhrensleftfoot added 12:04 - Oct 24
It's all getting a bit boring. The FAI have to speak to Marcus Evans for permission first, & if Marcus says no, he's under contract until 2015, they cannot approach Mick direct and that should be the end of the matter.

The only thing is if Marcus, being a business man, decides to try and profit from the situation and get a load of compensation or "transfer fee" for him.
