McCarthy Remaining Coy on Ireland
Thursday, 24th Oct 2013 15:16

Town boss Mick McCarthy added little to his previous comments on the speculation linking him with the Ireland job at his pre-match press conference at lunchtime. The Blues are yet to receive any contact from the FAI regarding McCarthy despite continuing claims that he is the man they want to succeed Giovanni Trapattoni.

Asked whether there was any change on the Ireland situation, McCarthy joked: “No, it’s still in the same place.”

Is he able to rule himself out of the running? “I told you, it’s still in the same place, just across from Liverpool and Manchester.

"If you’re going to go and visit it there are flights from Stansted, Southend, Aer Lingus or Ryanair.”

Last week, McCarthy said he would neither rule himself in nor out of the chase for the role he previously held between 1996 and 2002 until the FAI formally ask him whether he is interested.

Meanwhile, initial frontrunner Martin O’Neill’s odds have shortened this afternoon and the Northern Irishman is now a narrow favourite ahead of McCarthy with some bookies.

I put £30 on O'Neill to be appointed for ROI when MM became clear favourite, very pleased to see his odds shortening now and hopeful that he takes it, I'll win money and we'll keep MM!

No one wants Holloway seriously do they? He admitted himself he's exhausted and has run out of steam. I want MM to stay but whenever we need a new manager, we absolutely need someone who is hungry and full of energy for the post, not someone who just gives comedy press conferences

Im getting sick of this. Us as fans deserve better than this speculation.

I know Mick needs to keep the cards close to his chest and all that, but if he isn't fully committed to staying here, then so be it. We want people who care for our club, instead of them who use Ipswich as a springboard to move on to better jobs. I can't tolerate that kind of treatment, Ipswich is more important than Mick McCarthy to me.

Give us an answer, if you wanna leave, then it's not optimal but fine, we won't force you to stay. And if you wanna stay, come out and say so and make the days for us Ipswich fans a little bit easier and predictable.

Im so fed up of all this speculation

Has anyone thought perhaps he's sick of being asked the same question over and over again so is having some fun with the press?

Ian Holloway is a d*ck and not an great manager either.

If he wants it why doesn't he just say? He makes himself seem a bit of a dick with all this neither confirm or deny crap. He'll be referring to himself in the 3rd peep next. "Mick doesn't know and won't say whether he wants the job or not until somebody asks him"....... Get rid now I say, just for the crack and get old wossit in. Holloway won't do any worse and will be much more fun.

I have to give Mick credit, he is doing a great job in getting himself a big pay rise. I wish I could do this sort of thing with my current job. Unfortunately I haven't been head hunted for 20 years though. :(

Very bored with all of this now.
Bored with McCarthy's attitude toward Ipswich Town FC, the players and the fans.
Very disappointed with his attitude full stop now.

Have actually lost my respect for the man over this . Not because he will undoubtedly leave , but because of the way he's handled it all and as near as damn it actively courted the Irish to approach him - even though the havent, yet!

I like the way some are calling for us to sack MM due to lack of commitment, which would not only see us forfeit compensation but have to pay him up as well?! Thank foxtrot you are nothing to do with the running of this club if that's what you would do!

Holloway said he had lost his energy, so he's not the right man for me.
Curbishley or Di Matteo (won't happen, but..)

Big Mick isn't bringing the subject up is he? Is he chasing the job? No... it's the bloody journalists that keep asking him the same questions.... get a grip guys!

Get a grip now Mick. Sarcastic comments doesn't help the situation. If you want the job then just say you'd take it if offered and if you don't then simply say you don't. I'd imagine it's quite unsettling for the players too, not knowing where they stand or if he's going to be here tomorrow. I'd really like Di Matteo but DEFINITELY NOT Alan Curbishley, should Mick go.

Exactly . Time for cards on the table Mick! Distance yourself or say you want the job. Its really that easy.

It all seems to be media mischief making as usual after all the club has not even been approached for permission to speak with Mick so i can't see he is that high on the consideration list. It might be wishful thinking but i hope they leave him and us alone to get on with the job of getting us back where we belong.

Calm down folks, its in MMs interest to keep his options open, better improved contract and a strong bargaining position with ME re money for the January transfer window. FAI are quiet as they are awaiting acceptance from their primary target, like to be M O'N
Let's focus on the trip to Bolton and not get worked up about something that we have no control over.

No point speculating (just yet)...although I can see McCarthy getting the nod - I mentioned some time ago that the Metro thought he was the ideal candidate to go back and nothing has changed since Trappatoni went.
@Sindre - agree with what you say but a large % of people in football are in it for themselves whether that is players, coaches, players etc, there is no loyalty attached at all. I personally believe Mick was only lured here by that giant £1M carrot dangling above his strangely shaped nose, hope he stays as he has brought some stability to the club but my gut instinct is that the FIA will be sniffing around in a week or so's time.

Like most supporters I dont want MM to leave but why doesnt he just say im not interested im happy here etc it would then be a bit more secure to us. I think he does want it personally.
