Carson Impressing at York
Wednesday, 6th Nov 2013 17:34 by Blair Ferguson

York City boss Nigel Worthington says former Blue Josh Carson has been a “breath of fresh air” since he joined his club in September. Carson, 20, has scored two goals in eight starts and one sub appearance since joining the League Two Minstermen shortly after leaving Town by mutual consent.

“I’ve got to say he's come in and he's a breath of fresh air,” Worthington said. “He's done exceptionally well, he works very hard, scored a couple of very good goals for the team and he's created goals for the team.

“So, it's just about focus and hard work and when Josh does that he's an asset to anybody and he's doing extremely well for ourselves at the moment.”

Worthington, who gave Carson his first full international caps during his time as Northern Ireland boss, says he’s not sure why the Antrim-born midfielder went from promising youngster to outcast in such a short space of time with the Blues.

“To be honest, I don't really know the answer to that question,” he said. “If I was to say so myself maybe Josh had just taken his eye off the ball and maybe having not been as good as he can be during Mick McCarthy’s time at the football club, Mick's made the decision that it’s probably in Josh's interest to move on.

“I had Josh in [on loan] at the end of last season and he played for a month for us before he fractured his foot and when there was an opportunity this time round I took him to the end of the season on a permanent contract.

“I was quite pleased to do so because I know the boy very, very well and I know what he's capable of, so it's just a case of getting him focused again and hopefully he can either stay with us or he can bounce back up the leagues where I think he should be.”

Ridiculous comment blackberries, Carson was given plenty of chances by MM and PJ and never reproduced his early promise. Hope he does well but think he may have found his level.

If he keeps his head down, no reason why he shouldn't have a decent career & progress to a higher level.

he wasn't given plenty of chances, did he ever play under McCarthy at all? That said, still a ridiculous comment

It sounds like being kicked out by town was exactly the sort of kick up the pants he needed. It's not a case that if we'd kept him he'd have made the grade because he was the type of young player that scored a goal one day and came in late for training the next. In other words he needed to focus and without letting him go he'd never get over his own ego.

Dozells bobblehat i think ul find he was never given a chance under mccarthy and was only used sparingly under jewell so dont know where you came to that conclusion from!!! He may have got a bit big headed and think he liked a night out, but he still young and has the ability to make a career for himself. He was quick and direcr and had a shot on him, whats not to like??

Carson sufferers the same fate as O'Connor did. Came into the side, played well and then disappears into obscurity. I assume it was an ego, fitness or attitude problem in both cases.

He made 17 appearances the year before last and 7 Last year and showed nothing of the form that got him into the side. I wish him all the best but can totally see why he was released.

Still a young player and on his day far too good for League One and Two.

His main focus should be to make MM look like a fool and progress to a higher standard of football. I don't mean that in a disrespectful way, but when you've been released wanting to prove yourself to your old manager may make Carson into a better player.

I did post at the start of the season that JET would score twenty goals and Josh would end up in the Irish under 21 team. MM does not like exciting and skilful players. Watch this space.

Why the sudden love for Carson, he made 31 appearances and never stood out for me.

He obviously never looked good in training or Mick would have tried him at least as we were so short on wingers

Carson is league 1 at best

Well football is an unforgiving game, one of our best performances in the last 3 years was the season West Ham got promoted and we put 5 past them on a Tuesday night under the floodlights, whilst a great all round team performance that night I seem to also recall outstanding displays from Carson, Drury and Emanuelle-Thomas - look where they are all now!!!! Then again I watched young James Shea a week or so ago giving an outstanding performance in the FA Cup for Needham Market, quite a contrast when he was on the Arsenal bench last year in the Champions League!!! Looks far more accomplished than Loach or Gherkin!!!

Budgie Plucker - Carson didnt played against WestHam in that game - not even on the bench

So i dont know who you saw but it wasnt Carson

Carson was too much of a good time lad who put his nights on the town before his Footie. I think that there is a player in there but it was never going to happen whilst at town, he needed a shock to see for himself that he either pulled his socks up or his career would be over, hopefully this has done him the world of good and he will grow up! All the negative stuff about MM hates creative players is totally poppycock

Well JET has now scored 12 goals for Bristol City so City must be smiling like a cheshire cat and a great business deal on their part. Think we got Anderson in the deal wonder who came out worse?

Never fails we release a player, they wind up in a lower league and do well and our moronic supporters are all crying why did we let him go! Get over yourselves, you 're not that knowledgable in football to know why MM released him. Only that he did and is paid to make those decisions. The person calling MM a dinosaur, well I admit I am not MM's biggest supporter but I think you're either scum in disguise or probably the most moronic supporter we have. Either way your an idiot.

Why all the minuses?? josh lost his way at town for 1 reason or another but i believe he burst onto the scene and had real promise to forge a career for himself at this level, fact is it didnt work out and we have moved on
