Town Offered Woods Deal
Thursday, 28th Nov 2013 23:27

Scottish midfielder Martin Woods has revealed he was offered the chance to sign for Town prior to rejoining his previous club Doncaster Rovers earlier this week. The 27-year-old was previously reported to have been set to train with the Blues in pre-season.

Woods, who played under Mick McCarthy at Sunderland, was released by Rovers at the end of last season having spent three years struggling with injuries.

However, having been recommended an orthodontic approach to solving his injury problems by specialists in Italy, he is back to full fitness.

Woods told Radio Sheffield that he was training with Doncaster when McCarthy called but that he opted to rejoin Rovers: “I got a phone call from Mick McCarthy at Ipswich.

"He wanted to sign me until January on a pay as you play contract and then the same morning the manager here pulled me aside."

He added: “My missus’s family is from up here and my wee boy is settled in nursery, so I spoke to Mick McCarthy and I told him I really appreciate it, but this is where I’m at. He said he completely understood with my family here.”

Probally best for both party's, he's by his family, he probally wouldn't play over Skuse, Hyam, or Tunnicliffe, he would be very rusty after 3 years and is injury prone. This is probally part of the reason why Wordsworth didn't get a chance to get out on loan. Really like Mick's thinking with the pay as you play contracts! Brings out the best in players and makes them really work for it,looking forward to saturday! Coyb

.......... is there such a player, other than a midfielder, in this game anymore - certainly seems as if these are all ITFC are interested in - and have been for some considerable time.
