Town Draw Preston
Sunday, 8th Dec 2013 16:11

Town have drawn League One Preston North End at home in the third round of the FA Cup.

The clubs have met in the competition on two previous occasions, in February 1954 when the Lilywhites won 6-1 at Deepdale, then in January 1980 when Town ran out 3-0 victors also on Preston territory with Paul Mariner netting twice and Alan Brazil once.

Simon Grayson's Preston beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 away in round two on Saturday, having beaten Barnet 6-0 in the first round. They are currently third in League One.

The teams last met in the Championship in the 2010/11 season when the Lancastrians won 1-0 at home and the Blues 2-1 at Portman Road.

The game is Town's first home FA Cup tie since the 3-0 victory over Chesterfield in January 2009. Third round ties will be played on the weekend of 4th/5th January.

Should be straight through to round 4, will be able give a few of our younger ones a go, gives loach another chance, and we should see Wordsworth and Veseli in action too!

Decent draw, they will have to travel a long way and we should win although it won't be too easy. Would have loved an away game but this draw means we have more chance of progressing.

Excellent, nice to be at home finally in the FA Cup! Preston are 3rd in League One though, so won't be a push over.

I am laughing reading the comments from the PNE forums.

"Worst possible draw. Boring Championship team that will most likely beat us and that is too far away for most people to bother going. There's nothing quite like the buzz of the FA Cup 3rd round draw, and there's nothing quite as disappointing as getting against an average Championship club right at the other end of the bastard country. Bollocks. " :D

....... enthralled. The clip from the PNE forum (AbujaBlue) sums it up pretty well I guess. Needs to be a cheapie this one to get a reasonable gate.

RonFearonsHair. I would hope the club see an opportunity here to get some of the many missing supporters back to PR, £10 max for adults, kids for a quid. However, can,t see that, would love to be proved wrong though.

Sindre94 - totally understand your response to this draw - not exactly tempting to someone like yourself with travelling costs as they are. You'll be there in spirit anyway - I'm sure we all know that,

pinewoodblueboy - absolutely right - needs to be exactly that.

Not the most exciting team, but it's a lower league side and at home, meaning we have a great chance to advance to round 4.

I agree with your sentiments Sindre. Just ignore people who tap their keyboards without giving a thought to what they are saying. We used to have a lot of good supporters such as yourself and long may you remain a true supporter of Town.
