Former Wolves Loanee Frimpong Linked Again
Thursday, 19th Dec 2013 19:04

Having added Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Stephen Hunt and Christophe Berra to his Town squad over the last few months, boss Mick McCarthy is being linked with another of his former Wolves players, Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong, who spent time on loan at Molineux during the Town boss’s time in charge.

The 21-year-old made five starts for Wolves in January and February 2012, in addition to 10 starts and six sub appearances for the Gunners. Frimpong has also spent time out on loan at Charlton and Fulham, but is yet to play a first-team game this season and Arsenal are reportedly willing to allow him to leave with his contract up next summer.

According to Sports Direct News, McCarthy is interested in a January loan reunion with Ghana-born Frimpong, who moved to London as a child and joined Arsenal aged nine.

Frimpong was previously mentioned in connection with the Blues a year ago soon after McCarthy took over at Portman Road when the Town boss dismissed the link. However, he admitted he was a fan: “Nothing at all [in the link], except that I admire Manny.

“He’s a really a good player. He came to Wolves and was excellent and then he did his cruciate again at QPR. He’s a player that I really like.”

Hope he isn't caught in the Jet stream out of arsenal.

A more grounded individual would be appreciated!

A decent enough player, particularly at this level, but no better than we already have. Would be surprised if this happens, unless Tunnicliffe goes back

Not that bothered about this one, smells of all talk and little action to me.

Besides, don't think I could stand him and Nouble in the same team...

would love this to come off, he's got some serious class. As long as he takes it seriously, he'd be a fantastic addition to the squad

If he can back to playing at his pre-cruciate level this would be an(other) excellent addition to the squad. He is/was a seriously talented player who is Premiership class. Getting him on loan with a view to a permanent signing in the summer for free would be a remarkable piece of business if Mick can pull it off. Certaintly worth the risk if he comes on such terms.

Personally would steer clear of him, ex-Premiership player who I'd believe would be lazy, firstly you have to look at the character of the man which I have doubts about.

Would be a very good addition but doesn't solve our midfield creativity issue.

Was good when he first came through at Arsenal but that seems a long time ago- 21 years old, McCarthy knows him better than I do - Could be good

tenacious, hard working and not bad on the ball. Could be infectious in the middle. A better Hyam... IF he fancies it

We'll be wearing golden shirts next, keeping expecting Derek Dougan or John Richards to be linked soon (one for the youngsters here).

Anyway, I always rated Frimpong, if he's fit and hungry, I'd have him, better than Tunny or Hyam by far.

I must admit my first reaction was that we are becoming a team of Wolves 'old boys' but then when you think we are getting these players for nothing! This is great business.

I bet ME wishes he had employed MM before he flashed the cash on Keane and Jewel!!!

Micks comment 'he did his cruciate again' does this mean he has a weakness there? If so could be a risk.

Tractorcam ..... like the team line up but I reckon the signing of SEB will see the end of Taylor. He will be off in January.

If he joined, we'd have Clack, Ebanks-Blake and Dench Frimpong! Lot's of fights on the pitch then!

I think this would be another clever bargain should Mick go ahead and pull this off. Getting him on on loan, checking him out and, if he's the player we all hope he can be, getting him in for free at the end of the season. You don't get 10 starts for Arsenal without having a bit of class and I'd be more than willing to get behind Frimpong for a few games. At the end of the day, like the rest of you, I'll just believe in Big Mick to do what's best for the team.
