Hunt Delighted to Staying With Town
Saturday, 21st Dec 2013 06:03

Stephen Hunt can barely contain his joy after extending his stay with Town until at least the end of the season.

The experienced Republic of Ireland international, who had originally agreed a deal through to January, said: “I am delighted to be staying here and I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

“I didn’t want any hassle, just to get signed and not look anywhere else. I just wanted to get my head down and play, which I have been able to do in some of the games. It’s been good ever since I turned up here.”

Hunt has made four first team appearances so far and despite being left on the bench for the recent games against Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest he explained why he was not upset at being left out.

The former Reading, Hull and Wolves winger added: “I’m not frustrated that I haven’t had more playing time. It’s a team game and we have changed formations and other bits and pieces.

"I’ve been more than happy to support the team in the last couple of games. I will continue to do so and if I’m playing it will be even better for me.”

Hunt’s versatility could be key to whether Town, who go into today’s home clash with Watford having lost just once in eight games, continue to make progress.

He added: “If we play 4-3-3 I could play in three different positions to be honest — all three in midfield if I have to. I’ve been playing there in training, trying to get used to it, and I’ve quite enjoyed it.

“I could play up front, not through the middle but across the lines. If I’m not playing I always watch to see where people go and what they are doing. One thing I’m good at is taking on board a lot of knowledge in terms of tactics. I’m eager to learn and I watch a lot of football.

“When I was with Mick McCarthy at Wolves I played at left-back, in the middle and up front, so it’s obviously an option for him if he wishes.”

Hope he is fully fit, not worth risking him today if he has a hamstring tweak. Prefer to leave him out for one game to make sure we have him for the long haul. Good player to have in our squad. Versatile and a funny character who seems to be well regarded.

He's a better player than Reuser and looks to be a real tryer wonder how far he runs in a match a team man
