Fulham Linked With Tunnicliffe Move
Thursday, 30th Jan 2014 11:32

Fulham are reported to have made Manchester United an offer for midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe, who is currently due to stay on loan with the Blues until the end of the season.

According to Sky Sports, the Cottagers have made a joint bid for Tunnicliffe and another midfielder Larnell Cole, both of whom manager René Meulensteen will know well from his time as assistant boss at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Tunnicliffe has been a regular in the Town side since joining on loan in August, making 24 starts and five sub appearances. He extended his spell until the end of the season earlier this month.

Losing the 21-year-old former England U17 international would be a blow for the Blues, although they are already reported to be talking to a potential replacement, Leeds midfielder Paul Green.

Meanwhile, Saturday's opponents Bolton are understood to have made an enquiry to Millwall regarding ex-Town midfielder Liam Trotter.

The Lions themselves, along with Burnley, are talking to Yeovil about another member of Town's 2005 FA Youth Cup squad, winning goalscorer Ed Upson.

Another member of that team, striker Danny Haynes, completed a move from Notts County to Hibernian yesterday, while former defender Mark Venus has applied for the vacant Shrewsbury manager's job.

That's the reason we are linked with Paul Green then

OK - the Green link makes a bit more sense then but I still ask why we can't sign an attacking midfielder to play ahead of Hyam or Skuse?

Tunnicliffe gives the ball away far to cheaply to play in the Premier league.

Trotter would be a decent player to have back at Portman Road.

Wouldnt be a major loss, he seemingly played better wide left, when he really is a centre mid by trade. Hasn't registered on the score sheet and doesn't look like scoring either. Not impressed by green either. We need a creative, goal scoring midfielder, to help out dids and murph

we still have to protect the back four. our system is about stopping the opposition playing ,we are not a free flowing expansive system. Its our system that has us top 5 in goals scored column. Put a powder puff creative attack minded midfielder in and we would concede more. MM knows what he is doing.

He'll probably go to Fulham and score loads.... just our luck :P

Let's be honest here, doesn't assist or score any goals and that really isn't good enough at this level to go to a Premiership team, saying that we'll probably be playing them next season (they look like they are defo in a relegation scrap).

Anyone else fancy us signing Bakary Sako of wolves and getting stearman on a contract like we had Didsy last season on loan and with a view to sign on at the end of the season?
Send that other right back who we've just loaned back to Middlesbrough! (Frazer Richardson)
Pretty sure Stearman hasn't signed a new contract at wolves so will be out of contract at the end of the season

bluefeast - totally agree with you. We need strong characters, not attacking flair with an attitude to match. Just wouldn;t work out. I think that's why Taylor has struggled to break into the team

when are we going to learn how to use the loan system?

Dont think he is what Fulham need to stay up

Cole Skuse is generally the holding midfielder of the 2 (when Tunnicliffe does play in the middle) and Tunnicliffe has mainly been out on the left for most of this season and still hasn't produced that much if anything towards scoring.

Big loss if he goes. Much of what he's about is off the ball. He covers so much ground during a match.

Gipeswic no different from hyam then, who lets face it cant pass, score or create goal scoring chances. Hyam does cover a lot of ground off the ball too. Tunners has been ok, nothing more, nothing less. Its been interesting to see he actually has performed better out wide than in his preferred position in the middle. Our midfield is based too much on grafters and work horses

Would rather us go for Trotter above Tunnicliffe or Green , offers a lot more and was a poor decision to let him go

Wouldn't be overly disappointed. Hasn;t done what i thought he'd do in the middle.

He tries hard, but if he's to be considered a central midfielder his ball retention and passing needs a lot of work. He would get found out even more regularly in a premier league team than he does here. He gets about the pitch a fair amount but I'm never convinced about him going into a tackle, he has a tendency to go in back first or jump over it if it looks 50/50. A centre mid with average passing and a low % of tackles won won't be many managers first choice of type player. At least Hyam will commit to every tackle he thinks he can win.

Surco if you remember it was trotter's decision to leave, he turned down the new contract that keane offered him. That sham of a red card against pompey really knocked trotter's run of momentum and confidence

I have alrady heard this to be hocum. Tunners is going nowhere.

Lets not look back at players lost because where does it stop? If only we hadnt sold Tarrico, Kiwomya, Dozzel, Atkinson. If only Zondavon had stayed and Muren. Why has Bobby Petta allowed to go? Im sure Adrian Paz would have been decent if he had been given more time! Why was Robson ever allowed to go to England and as for Sir Alf? Well what was the club thinking! These things are all passed lets look to the future because this is the first season since Big Jim left that we have looked competative. COYB

Jimmy86 ... Trotter was sold by Keane after it being made clear to him that he was not wanted , the same as Rhodes . If the manager and the club had wanted him he would not have been allowed to go .
Blueandtrue.....And getting old players back that are better than what we have is surely looking forward and repairing past damage and improving the squad and team with someone who already knows the club , players and staff ?
Was bringing Klug back to Ipswich a mistake ? Or Wark ?

Surco im afraid i dont agree regarding trotter. Keane rated trotter hence why he offered him a new contract. It was liam' s choice to go to millwall full time, having been on loan there. He might not have been a guranteed starter at town, but he was well thought of at the time

Surco72 added 17:04 - Jan 30
Jimmy86 ... the club had to offer him a contract due to his age or he could have left for no fee at all . If Keane rated him so highly you have to ask yourself why was he allowed to go on loan to Millwall ?
Rated players are not sent on loan , hence the amount of game time Taylor has been given since he was sent on loan and got himself fit
