Swansea McGoldrick Bid Claim as Tunnicliffe Fulham Link Persists
Thursday, 30th Jan 2014 22:55

Swansea City are reported to be showing late transfer window interest in Town top scorer David McGoldrick.

According to Sports Direct News, the Swans are set to make a deadline day offer for the 26-year-old, who has scored 14 goals this season.

The Blues are said to have put a price of £4 million on the striker, who has 18 months left on his contract.

Meanwhile, on-loan midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe continues to be linked with a permanent move from Manchester United to Fulham.

Earlier today, it was reported that the Cottagers had made a joint bid for Tunnicliffe and his Red Devils team-mate Larnell Cole, who Fulham manager René Meulensteen worked with during his spell as assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

While Tunnicliffe was watched by Fulham during his time with the Blues, it had been understood that their interest had cooled, however, unconfirmed reports this evening claim the 21-year-old and Cole are amongst a number of players set for deadline day medicals at Craven Cottage.

Tunnicliffe has been a regular in the Town side since joining on loan in August, making 24 starts and five sub appearances. He extended his spell until the end of the season earlier this month.

The January transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday, while Mick McCarthy's regular pre-match press conference is scheduled for 1.30pm.

Not what any Ipswich fan wants to read

We simply cannot let this happen, Didzy is the only creative player in the team and is very much our talisman, If he's worth 4m now he could be worth 5m by the summer the way he's playing so lets not be greedy and panic for the cash.
Are you listening Mr Evans?

No no no no no, not now, we've come so far, there are other players we could contemplate.........possibly, but not Didz, not now, no way, nip this in the bud Mick, ASAP!!!!!!!!

Let him go! I mean what a profit it could be, just like cresswell. Any club could have got him for free in the summer just gone but nobody would take a gamble on him, except Ipswich. If we are to sell him then all of that would have to be invested back into the squad as he is a key player and we would need to replace him. Good bit of business from mick: sign him for less than a pencil then sell him for maybe £4 million!

No matter how much offered he's our best player. He makes everything tick and we'll struggle to replace him. If Swansea do come in with an offer, only accept it of they give us Michu and Bony in return!haha

Mick wouldn't do this unless we had someone as decent or better ready to replace him

Not too worried about the McG story, and unconfirmed report from a website I've never heard of is the only mention, not even a peep about this on the Swansea forums that I've seen either so not too worried :)

This really is the worse time of the year for fans at our level. Bring on 1st February.

Not a good idea to do that at this time to us trusting and excitedly apprehensive supporters.

It would explain the seemingly unlikely moves for Green & Doyle.
No matter how much we dislike the prospect, it is hard to see either move being blocked - £4m clear profit on McGoldrick who only has 18 months left on his contract (the folly of not giving 3 year+ contracts) & a loan prayer getting the chance of regular football in the Premiership, with a manager who has known him since he was a kid. If true.
It would be a disastet, but I fear the worst, due to the other players we have been linked to.

As much as I hate to say this the option will be £4 million now or far less in the summer due to his contract getting down to 12 months.
The key is if we get the money in we will soon see the owners ambition, will the full figure go back into the playing staff?

As for Tunnicliffe I'm not that bothered, he's okay, just don't think he gives us what we need.

What worries me is ........ "The Blues are said to have put a price of £4 million on the striker"

Why not just tell them to get lost?

We can forget about playoffs if we lose McGoldrick. Bloody hell

Disaster if he goes, star player by far. Who can you get for £4M these days who is as good? Plus ME will likely let it suck up the losses, just like the Whickham cash..that never got reinvested. Town are broke. Fact.

Wonder if this has anything to do with us being mentioned in connection with conner wickham. Eadt report that we haven't approached him, gotta feeling if dids does go we might look at wickham coming back

If he goes we'll have a day to get a replacement in. I like how mick's done his business so far - in the summer when good players are out of contract and he's got three months to think about it. Would prefer to take less for mcgoldrick in the summer, not disrupt the team now, and spend the next few months spending time scouting a decent replacement we can pick up on the cheap

The only thing I have seen of Swansea sites is that they think Didz is a good goalscorer (however they think lacks general prem quality in other areas) but with good midfielders getting him in shooting positions he will score loads, having said that they just signed David N'gog as cover for Michu so not sure y they want Didz too, hopefully they dont bid for him coz it will be impossible for Didz to say no, but if he does go, then our play-offs will be all but over so MICK PLEASE SAY NO!

wouldn't be a problem.. we aren't pulling up trees at the mo! If our squad is worth their salt. A shot in the arm may wake them up.....

They can p1ss right off..

IF we did sell then I say go out and bring Wickham back & pair him with Marriott for the rest of the season..but that will never happen..it would be far too adventurous.

This to be fair is scary....put it this way !! ..frank the plank nouble could be our striking spearhead come tomorrow night !! OMG!!!!

Alwaysablue added 00:31 - Jan 31
Lightningboy why on earth would we get Wickham back? Would be very unnecessary, nothing like McGoldrick so could hardly replace him..
2

calypso_blue added 00:57 - Jan 31
without him we wouldn't be in double figures for goals

mrmorisato added 01:06 - Jan 31
I'm not surprised of the interest as he has scored 14 goals so far this season although Swansea have just signed Ngog from Bolton, why do they need to sign another striker?

This is a good sign that Premier league clubs are interest in our players it shows that we have some excellent players at our club! :) ;)

With less than 24 hours remaining until the window shuts it would crush any hopes of Town making the top six (even though Town aren't ready or properly prepared for life in the premier league just yet)

Seeing we don't have any available funds for any replacements it would be a huge blow if we let our top goalscorer leave in this window, please don't sell McGoldrick Mick we need him!!!!!
