TWTD understands that Town have renewed their interest in Leeds United’s Republic of Ireland international midfielder Paul Green. Yesterday, boss Mick McCarthy revealed that the Blues are in currently in talks regarding a potential loan signing.
McCarthy pulled out of a deal to sign 30-year-old Green on the final day of the transfer window a week ago with the Whites wanting Town to pay too great a proportion of his wages.
Speaking last Saturday, the Blues manager didn’t rule out making a new attempt to sign Green on a 93-day emergency loan, but said he would also look at other options. Former Town man Owen Garvan was amongst those eyed, although his ongoing patellar tendinitis may have meant that move was viewed as too risky.
The takeover saga at Leeds seems unlikely to come to a quick resolution and has led to a cash flow crisis, and they may now be more willing to compromise on a deal.
Yesterday, Whites boss Brian McDermott is reported to have said that Green could be close to making a loan move away from Elland Road.
Green was previously linked with the Blues during Paul Jewell’s time as boss, the former Town manager having signed him during his spell at Derby.
Pontefract-born Green started his career with Doncaster Rovers, joined Derby on a free transfer in the summer of 2008 and then moved on to Leeds in June 2012, signing a two-year deal. He has been capped 20 times by Ireland, scoring once.
The 5ft 9in tall midfielder has made 42 starts and four sub appearances during his time with Leeds, scoring four goals, one in last season's 2-0 defeat of the Blues at Elland Road.
Green hasn’t played a first team game for the Whites since October, having suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty in November but returned to training in January.

If Tabby is playing well then I guess Green is really just cover at this stage. He seems more of a Tabb replacement than a Skuse one, given his height.
Personally feel he is an uninspiring player, a typical grafter that obviously Mick likes. If we get him on loan wish him all the best but I'm not expecting too much!
Agree Essexboy Paul Green is definitively not the answer, must be better players out there, uninspiring , boring, wrong age, one pace, more of a defensive midfielder...what more can I say but NO, but there again who are we to disagree on Micks 55th Birthday
I had a dig around last week, and the consensus on Leeds message boards what that Green was played out of position by Brian McDermott out wide on the right of midfield.
They said that he is much better suited to central midfield, where his experience and work rate tick Mick's boxes, and he can provide cover for any wide players who wish to attack the flanks. He played very well in this role for the Republic of Ireland in their 0-0 with Poland in Poznan in November.
This all makes good footballing and business sense. We have a small squad, so he will get opportunities to play, and, unlike Leeds (post Warnock) we have not weakened our cash position by carrying redundant players. Being a loan signing won't be a problem either.
He's not the youngest, but he has unfulfilled potential and is being currently underutilised, and he could do a first rate job for us in the short term at the very least.
McDermott wouldnt let Green go 'loan or not' if he was any good.. Think we require a consistant forward ( as SEB out for too long :-/ ) aswell, as a presence in in our sometimes redundant midfield, to give McGoldrick a run for his money..
frankly if Green is who Mick wants I trust him. Lots of good players are allowwed on loan for various reasons so i dont agree that Leeds will only let him go out if useless.
Old and injury prone. If we signed him 6 years ago it would have been a great signing. If he's not good enough for an average Leeds team then why is he good enough for us? I'll give him a chance if we sign him but I can't say I'm overly enthusiastic about him.
Had a feeling when mcdermott made it known green was about to go out on loan, I knew it would be us. Whilst garvan is slow and lightweight he is more creative. I would go for dorrans but there we go
Why are people even mentioning his age we aren't buying him and he's 30, which is when most midfielders peak. Honestly, some of you would moan if we signed Lampard and Gerrard for the rest of the season.
