Boss Mick McCarthy was delighted to see Daryl Murphy and Paul Green called up by the Republic of Ireland and Christophe Berra named in the Scotland squad this week.

“I think Christophe’s been an absolute star,” he said. “He’s been excellent at the back and Murph doesn’t always get the recognition because it’s Didz that gets it.

“But he’s appreciated by me, by TC and by all the lads for the work he puts in and the goals he’s chipped in with.

“But it’s always just beneath Didz because he’s scoring the goals, and that’s always the case. It just shows he’s being recognised elsewhere at international level.

“I spoke to Martin on Tuesday, he told me he was thinking of putting him in the squad and I’m delighted for him and certainly delighted for Christophe.”

McCarthy says 30-year-old Murphy, who will be hoping to add to the last of his nine caps which he received back in August 2008, is playing as well as he can remember: “Murph’s been great, Murph’s had a great season. I reckon Murph’s had the best season he’s had for a long time.

“I’d argue it’s the best season he’s had at Ipswich and he’s been here for 12 years - he had a 10-year loan spell!”

The Town boss was pleased with recent loan signing Green’s full debut against Blackpool last week: “I think he’s a really good player, Greeny, and so do a lot of other people, obviously, Trapattoni, Martin O’Neill.

“His role got changed slightly last week when we lost Luke Hyam. I thought we started really well and I thought Greeny and Luke were excellent getting forward.

“And we lost Luke and Tabby went in there and Tabby’s been brilliant, but he didn’t have the same effect that Luke was having.

“Then I put Greeny in there, Greeny plays central midfield and I thought he did really well. I was pleased with him.”

WhoisJimmyJuan added 10:53 - Feb 21 Must be difficult for MM because he can't add a "y" to Murphy, so he has to take it away. Also he can't add a "y" to Berra. Didzy, Tabby, Greeny, Cressy are all OK. Not sure about Edwardsy, Hyamy, Gerkeny, Andersony (Andy?), Skusy, Noubly, Taylory?
