Palace Chairman Confirms Williams Loan
Thursday, 27th Feb 2014 09:44

Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish has confirmed that midfielder Jonny Williams is joining the Blues on loan, initially for a month.

Parish told the South London Press that Williams needs game time: "Jonny is only going for a month initially because he is very close to our first team. He just needs to get a bit more sharpness and play games.

"If you look at people like Wilfried Zaha and Tom Ince they have played 100 games in the Championship.

“Jonny has had a very stop-start last couple of years and just needs to get some games. He played very well for our U21s [in the 2-1 victory at Portman Road] on Monday. He just needs to go out and play week in and week out.

"He might help get them promoted. He just needs some games. We didn't want to let him go until the end of the season because we don't know what our situation is going to be."

Parish says Town were one of three Championship clubs to enquire about Williams, Charlton are understood to have been one of the others, and the interest predated Monday's game: "We had three clubs who wanted him. The manager has got a good relationship with Mick McCarthy.

"Ipswich were interested before the game, it was just a coincidence we were playing them. It's a good place for him to go and Jonny is really happy to go there."

Wales international Williams looks set to go into the squad for Saturday’s home game against Birmingham City.

Cant say I am that excited about this, I think we play the best player we have at the club in the middle of the park.

And who's the best player we have at the club karlo?? Williamz is a decent player but I had hoped it would be until the end of the season

Could be a good signing I think what I saw of him last year .

He looked great a pr until stearman got hold of him

Karlos - He has something we have been lacking for years - attacking midfielder and skill and likes a forward pass - be good balance
I just hope MM now plays em all in the right order now !

Quality player... Seen him loads for palace... He will annoy opposition as he will run all game! Not big but forces fouls well! Not an out n out goal scorer but a grafter.

As much as he's a decent player and a good signing, I can't help but think it's a bit pointless. We should have done this in January when Hyam first got injured and Tunnicliffe went. We waited for everything to go pear shaped before acting. A month's loan just seems strange when we're now sat comfortable in mid table with no threat of play offs or relegation. There's obviously no hope of this ever becoming permanent so I think it would have been an ideal time to give fringe players like Wordsworth a chance to show what they can do.

I think we have been looking for some time but thru mix of injuries and new manager coming in just took more time
MM looked at him couple of months back
As for Wordy - I am just not sure he has it - from what I have seen

Another football club chairman talking to the press trying to give the impression he knows something about football/ players. Stick to the finances and leave the football stuff to the manager!

MM has certainly be trying to get somebody in and these things do not always go to plan. Just think back last summer and all the great transfers he pulled off then, so give him some slack.

One month is a good initial period to see whether we like each other. There may be a possible deal to be done in the summer or beyond. Agree that Hyam will be back soon but he will take time to get match fit. This is a good cover signing imo.

Brilliant little player..seen him play many times for Wales over the last couple of years..only downside is he seems a bit injury prone.

Just what we need..I hope Mick let's him express himself on the pitch!

Sounds promising, looks like striker wise his favorite big Frank will get even more game time as Wickham gone to Leeds.
Expect MM wanted Jonny Williams til the end of season but a month is better than nothing I suppose, especially if it means his other favorite, the much praised(by MM)Tabby as he calls him, might now get less game time.
Regarding the forgotten men (3 out on loan)plus Taylor and Wordsworth,I don't think any of us have seen enough of them to definitely say they are not good enough because unlike Tabb and Nouble they have not been given enough 1st team game time,I feel,to formulate a considered opinion.
Not that it would matter anyway as Mick McCarthy picks the team.
Lets hope whatever happens that we get a more entertaining game than what us,the paying public, have had to endure recently.

Simply a very good signing hopefully we can extend it though, gives us more creativity in the middle, was one of the hot prospects outside the prem last season so there's got to be some ability there.

Happy with this. Palace fans nicknamed him joniesta as his ball retention and creativity is so good. Sounds like what we need alongside Skuse.

This is a great loan deal.

He sounds just the type of player we need, although if Palace say he is lacking sharpness he could be here a very short time we we may not see that much benefit. I generally dislike getting other clubs' players fit for them. Is there a 24-hour recall clause?

Shame it isn't until the end of the season, a month loan seems to imply that if he does well, Palace will call him back and we'll be no further forward. If we are going for loans, I'd rather they were long term loans, in this case at least until the end of the season. Having said that, he is supposedly a good player in an area we desperately need. I hope (if he's good) Palace stay in the Premier, but more midfielders in the summer and are then willing to offload him to us.

Can only guess Karlos doesn't know much about this lad, he won't replace hyam in a 4-4-2 as he's too creative for our midfield and not a workhorse so is definitely not a replacement. Would love to see him in a 4-3-3 with Skuse and Hyam holding allowing him to attack and get forward but most likely hell be stuck out on the wing where he can't have an influence knowing Mick

loan 1 get a loan free cud had garvan as well a creative midfield for strikers then

Karlo I think taylor deserves more game time, because he adds something different, he runs at players and is technically good on the ball. Could prob link the midfield with the strikers as he is not a centre mid or an out and out striker. More the number 10 role id say. He better than nouble without a doubt

In the middle: Joniesta and Tabi Alonso.

Good news as afar as it goes. Have a nagging feeling things are going a bit full circle though. New manager comes in, brings some half decent players in, then some more. Morale rises, then dips and performances and results suffer. So out comes the sticking plaster of loans. The number of loans and short-terms deals seems to have gone up again whilst current squad members are off form/out of favour. This suggests that as under Keane/Jewell all is not well off the pitch. Players who come in permanently should be better than what we have and stay better. Not come in and decline, resulting in the need for yet more loans. For me the answer lies squarely in the youth system which is running on empty at the moment.
