McGoldrick Targeting Early Return
Wednesday, 5th Mar 2014 10:49

Top scorer David McGoldrick says he's targeting a return from injury before the end of the season. The 26-year-old suffered a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee late on during the game against Blackpool last month.

According to initial estimates the former Nottingham Forest man would face 10 weeks on the sidelines, while manager Mick McCarthy subsequently suggested his absence would be nearer the 12-week mark, all but ruling him out of any further action this season.

However, McGoldrick, who has scored 16 times during 2013/14, told Ipswich Player that he is determined to be back before the end of the campaign to assist in Town’s challenge for a place in the top six: “People have said that I’m pretty much ruled out for the season now, but I see that as a challenge to get back before then.

“I want to come back before the season ends and I want to play my part. I’m desperate for the boys to stay in and around those play-off places and that will drive me on to get back even more.

“I’ll be doing as much as I can to get back, whether that be doing double rehab sessions every day or whatever it takes, I just want to get back and help the lads out.

“They might not need me, as we’ve still got four great strikers at the club. But I’m desperate to get back and help out with the play-off push.”

That spirit is typical of this squad. I think we would have to look a long way back to find such a close bunch of players all determined to work as hard as they can as a team.
Great stuff out of you Didz!

Harsh to leave out Murphy but can you imagine how good a front line of SEB & Didsy could be with Taylor playing behind them!

Smithy - Agreed. Best since Benty and Kuqi 2005 I reckon. ALthough Wickham at hsi best was superb. And we might have been able to argue for Rhodes but for the intervention of the Assistant Coach for teh Republic of Ireland who felt that Grant Leadbitter was a wiser investment.

"They might not need me, as we've still got four great strikers at the club" - great words of encouragement from McGoldrick for the rest of our strikers

Really good attitude, top words to hear, but as mentioned, hope he doesn't worsen it by working it too hard.

Having said that, he shows here he's clearly got his head screwed on properly when it comes to the game so I'm sure he'll know his limits

I agree, Didzy has by far been one of the best signings in recent times, alongside with Cresswell and Chambo. When we were moving through the Keane and Jewell times there wasn't this level of motivation and determination to play. Didzy is a great example of a player that wants the best for our club and wants to give 110% every game. MM you have made a great decision to sign Didzy and I am proud how far we have come whilst MM has been in charge. Although Didzy has been a big impact on the field it will also now give the likes of Taylor to show what they have too. Didzy is right, we still have 4 great strikers at the club (although Nouble I wouldnt agree so much with) but as people have already said above ... dont push yourself too hard and make your injury worse. We want you in the best shape possible. COYB <3
