Williams Looks Set to Return to Palace
Thursday, 27th Mar 2014 10:54

Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis appears increasingly likely to want midfielder Jonny Williams back at Selhurst Park when his one-month loan spell with the Blues is up after Saturday’s home game against Nottingham Forest.

According to various reports Pulis is set to end the 20-year-old’s time at Portman Road, although quizzed on his plans for the Welsh international the Eagles manager wouldn’t comment either way.

"I went to watch the game at Ipswich and Jonny Williams scored a great goal and played well. But I will be speaking to Ipswich about Williams before speaking to the media," he said.

Outfield players on emergency loans can’t be recalled during the first month of a spell with Williams currently due to remain wit the Blues until after this weekend.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that he’d like to keep Williams until the end of the season, while Williams has said he’d like to stay at Portman Road if he’s not going to play for Palace in their battle against Premier League relegation.

Football League clubs have until 5pm today to register new emergency loans, although existing deals, such as Williams’s, can still be extended to up to 93 days after that deadline.

Williams has made three starts and two sub appearances for the Blues, scoring his first Town goal in the 2-1 victory over Derby on Tuesday.

Big Blow if this happens.. Without Mcgoldrick and Taylor out of favour i'd say he is our only real attacting spark in the team!

Pulis is not giving anything away. He is saying what we all saw; that Williams scored a good goal and played well. He isn't going to say that he was rubbish.

Let's just wait and see before getting uptight over speculation.

Why don't you all calm down and wait till it actually happens before all the doom and gloom !!

Football can be a brutally unsentimental game at times. It's easy to see Pulis logic, but being rational about this doesn't really help mitigate the disappointment.

The Palace boss will have to stand up some promises to Jonny. I don't know much about his track record, but I reckon that he is as straight as Mick. If Jonny goes back, he won't be playing under 21 football.

It all feels like the end of a brief relationship with a beautiful sixth form girl after her Dad gets a job at the far end of the country. We shouldn't give up hope yet, but it has been wonderful while it has lasted.

howdonblue... when has anybody on here ever calmed down and waited till anything actually happened before all the doom and gloom and a chance to moan about things that might not actually happen?

Blooming heck the doom and despair squad are out already. lets just wait and see what happens.... but even if he goes back we could be ok. remember a lot of people thought our season was over when we lost Dibs... now look? Whatever happens its been a successfuly season. Let keep the positivity going and not all throw ourselves off the Orwell Bridge just yet

Harry, I don't think you should really be having any relationships with sixth form girls, however beautiful they might be, should you?

As for the comments from Pulis, they are as someone put factually correct - he played well and scored a great goal. And as outfield players can't be recalled during the first month of a spell, he's here until after Saturday's game, but presumably, if we were to keep him officially until the end of the season, he'd still be able to recall him after that time at short notice if he was likely to play him, so would make sense to leave him here I would think. Here's hoping, anyway.

hopefully it has shown MM that a attacking creative midfielder is what we need to complete our team.

That's very funny Hoppy! Perhaps the words 'when I was a teenager' would have helped, but it's all starting to go so far back now that I'm not sure I'd remember anyway.

He is a Palace player at the end of the day. It really is up to Palace.
It is going to be hard for us to truly be masters of our fate whilst we rely so heavily on other clubs.
Of course I want him to stay, but it would be a risk for Pulis to leave him with us. imagine he has a sensational rest of season and Palace go down? He might get recalled, if only to keep the bench warm.
Feel sorry for the player, he really wants to see this season out with us.

Here's hoping he stays hoppy .

I think he's been a breath I fresh air :-))

But on the plus side even If he does go back
With the momentum we have now built I would hope we will still carry on our good form with or without johniesta

On the plus side Wordsworth is turning out to be quite a tidy player and SEB is getting more match sharpness..... perfect timing for the end of season run in.

Hope Williams stays but if he goes we still have a decent team and Mick seems to have adjusted the strategy to be more attack minded.... let's enjoy the rest of the season whatever happens :)

Does anybody know how long he has left on his CP contract ?

Can Pullis even play him? When we were linked with Garvan he wasn't 'named' in their squad of 25 or whatever it is even though he is their player...does this mean Williams is named in that squad? That rule confuses me if you hadn't noticed!

All we can do is wait.

Just pleased to have tickets for Saturday to see Williams play should he have to go back.

Also, 'if' Williams goes back, don't be surprised to see Skuse back and Woody put in that role.

"I went to watch the game at Ipswich and Jonny Williams scored a great goal and played well. But I will be speaking to Ipswich about Williams before speaking to the media,"

So how do you get your headline from that comment Phil???

It was an obvious, reasonable and understandable response from his manager.

ipswichtillidie - What is the obsession with Taylor? People seem to think he is a class above other players in our team and so far, I've seen very little reason why!

Just checked and he wasn't named in their 25 man squad in February, so surely he cannot play for Palace and is better playing frist team football at Ipswich for the remainder of the season.
