Town loanee Jonny Williams has what it takes to become one of the best players in the world, according to team-mate Paul Anderson.

Williams has made a considerable impact since arriving from Crystal Palace and netted his first goal for the club, a magnificent 30-yard drive, in Tuesday’s memorable 2-1 home win over Derby County.

Fellow midfielder Anderson said: “Jonny’s a great player. I was actually saying — a bit tongue in cheek — the other day that he is one of the best players I’ve ever played with.

“He has great ability and he’s such a nice lad as well, so grounded for a young lad who’s got a great, great future ahead of him. It’s great for us to be able to capture someone like that and hopefully he can stay here for as long as possible.”

Asked how far he felt 20-year-old Williams could progress in the game, Anderson responded by saying he is capable of going all the way to the very top.

He added: “He’s definitely a Premier League player and for his sake I hope he goes on to play for one of the top four clubs. Hopefully he can go on to play as high as possible.

“I’ve had feedback from some of his fellow Welsh internationals that he’s one of the best they’ve seen. You look at Gareth Bale, who has gone to become the most expensive player in the world, and you never know who can go on to reach that level. It would be nice for someone else to go on and get such a glamorous career.”

The big question on everyone’s lips right now is whether Palace will permit Williams to stay on loan beyond the initial month-long agreement that is due to expire after Town’s home clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Anderson said: “Behind him we’ve still got very strong players. I don’t think we can rest everything on Jonny Williams. At the end of the day he’s a very good player and a great asset to the squad but if he goes back we will all wish him well.

“He’s going back to a Premier League club who may want him to be playing for them. Obviously, it would be lovely for him to stay and I think everyone in the changing room, as well as the staff and fans, would love him to still be here. But if he has to go on and progress that way, back at Palace, I hope it goes well for him.”

whittonite added 08:24 - Mar 28 to keep jonny here, you got to wonder what tony pullis has said to j.w. if he goes back to palace you can guarantee he will be at least on the bench.if it is a matter of fees,if i was marcus evans this one is a definite no brainer he has seen what he would be putting his money into in action. i just hope that we get the rub of the green on this one, as in the past we have had to send players(e.g. henderson,townsend,gio etc.,) back when we looked like we might get going.young as he is,this guy has the capability to raise the game of other players around him. alas the decision is not in our hands but i know at least 17,000 people who were at the derby game will be willing this one to come up trumps for us.
