No News on Williams Loan Extension
Friday, 28th Mar 2014 14:42

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’ll learn whether Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis is willing to extend Jonny Williams’s loan with the Blues beyond its initial month after Saturday’s home game against Nottingham Forest.

The 20-year-old is currently due to return to Selhurst Park following Forest’s visit with reports yesterday speculating that Pulis wants the Wales international for the final weeks his club’s Premier League relegation battle.

McCarthy says that so far there have been no developments on that front: “He’s available for the weekend, that’s the main thing, he’s with us. We’ll just take that one and see what happens.

“Of course [we’d like to keep him for the rest of the season] but he’s not our player so that’ll be determined by somebody else. But let’s hope so.”

Meanwhile, the Blues manager says top scorer David McGoldrick is the only player unavailable for Saturday’s game: “Cole Skuse is fine, he trained fully yesterday and today, he’s OK.

"Luke Chambers had a migraine and had blurred vision [late on against Derby], but he’s fine. He’s trained well today as well.

“Everybody’s OK, except Didzy, who I think comes out of his brace in the next couple of days, so he’s making progress as well.”

Messi of the championship. Just the kind of player to put 5000 on our gate. I so hope he is able to stay with us as i believe with him we can not only make the play offs but win them. Please Tony do us a favour .

Have we allowed Edwards to go to free up funds to pay more of Williams wages to allow us to keep him 'till end of season I wonder?

Wouldn't surprise me if we were allowed to keep him as long as we paid a higher % of his wages.

Oh pleeeeease Pulis let us keep him! Please please please!

On a separate note, it's interesting that MM plays Williams and wants to keep him whilst Taylor has really struggled to even make the bench this season. They seem very similar type of players, skillful and technically gifted. So, even if Williams does go, i'm sure Taylor could fill his shoes and allow us to carry on playing the same system. I hope this would happen but MM seems to have in for Taylor

You cannot compare Williams and Taylor. For starters Williams has an eye for a pass where Taylor plays play ground head down football. Hes not in the team as he is not a team player. Waste of 1.8 million quid if its true thats what we paid.

Why do some people think us keeping Williams has anything at all to do with money. Palace sent him here to get match fit after his extended period out of the 1st team due to injury, and as a favour between old mates Pulis & McCarthy. He's come to us, played well, improved his fitness, and if Palace think they need him for their relegation battle, they'll take him back without a doubt.

Good post boysinblue.

I completely agree they are very similar players, and Taylor can do a similar job - as he did for us when he was 'allowed' to play.

How they havent been able to do that is part of the criminal mis-management going on at the moment.
While we win, most here will be happy to put up with that, but how much better could it have been had Mick started with the attacking players at the start of the season, instead of 2 games ago.

Williams v Taylor is interesting, but sadly no comparison. Williams is all over the pitch, knows when to pass the ball and seems to do all the basics. Taylor has similar quality in his game (although not so much as Williams), but takes on the extra man rather than pass to a team mate and sees uninterested in doing the basics. Williams seems a team player. Mick wants payers who work hard, do the basics and be part of the team. Although this wont be popular, but for me Taylor doesn't do that.

I don't disagree that Williams is more of a team player, that seems evident, he seems to have a stronger frame of mind. BUT I do think they have a similar set of skills at a footballing level. They are both tremendously talented. So, I was just making the point that it's not all doom and gloom if Williams goes because Taylor could do a job in that position, if he gets his head in the game.

Just been speaking to a Palace friend of mine , who tells me that Williams usualy appears from the bench and when he comes on does very little, his words great championship player has not cut it in the premier league , hopefuly his right and he stays

Boys in blue Taylor will never be half the player Williams is in either ability or application. I'm amazed there's so much speculation about Taylor. Like most on here I hope he plays well when called upon but to compare him to Williams is way off the mark

How about playing Williams and Taylor?
Now there's an idea!

Pretty sure JET got more starts than Taylor and Taylor is clearly a bigger crafter than JET so this reason not to play Taylor feels a bit hollow. He's always grafted in games I've seen. Let's face it, he's said something at some stage and its been frosty ever since.

I'd only turn to Taylor if Williams goes back. I don't see how it'd work playing both Taylor and Williams in the same side unless they played on the wings, which I don't think either would be as effective playing there.

Fat Cat Evens, you know as little about football as our owner and current manager. (which given your name is understandable)
Mills, Beattie, and Wark have rated Taylor as our best player.
Who are you to doubt them????????????

Typical Mick blinkered fan.

Williams is as good as gone, Mick knows it & no doubt already had that conversation with Pulis. He just doesn't want to deflate the team ahead of the Forest game.

Let's enjoy his talents tomorrow & roar the team on. The atmosphere should be rocking, it's been 8 long years since we had a sniff... COYB!!

It's all about opinions itfc realist. If you think Taylor is better than Williams I respect your opinion. If you choose to be abusive about me that's entirely your prerogative as well. Time will tell I guess. As for my name, I'm sorry the irony is lost on you.
