Player of the Year Voting Starts
Player of the Year Voting Starts
Monday, 31st Mar 2014 10:10

Online voting for this season’s Supporters’ Player of the Year award has started on the Supporters Club’s website.

Voting will also take place around the ground prior to the Doncaster Rovers game on Saturday 12th April, the day of the Players Awards Evening, which will be held in the Sir Bobby Robson Suite at 7pm.

The Town first team squad and coaching staff, including manager Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor, will once again be in attendance.

During the evening, presentations will be made to the Player of the Year, all the players who made their full debut during the season, as well as the Academy Player of the Year, along with a special presentation to the Young Fan of the Year. The evening is also a great opportunity to collect autographs and have photos taken with players.

Tickets to the Player Awards Evening cost £20 and include the presentations and a buffet. They are available from officialitsc@btinternet.com, by phone on 07968 876504 or in Legends Bar after any Saturday home game. Further details can be found on www.itfcsupporters.co.uk.

Last couple of seasons, this has been fairly easy - with only one or two really stand-out performers. This season however, there are a few worthy candidates. I think all these are in with a shout, for me; Smith, Berra, Murphy, McGoldrick... maybe Chambers, Gerken....

If the first 500 votes are anything to go by, Berra is going to walk it.

The amount of times Berra has saved us this season, he deserves it to be honest.

There is a lot of love among supporters for Chambers & Smith as a centre half partnership (& rightly so) after their performances last season, but it is clear to me that Berra has been our outstanding defender all year, & also our outstanding player. Great signing AND has played on his less favoured side of the partnership. Still young for a centre half too, sign him up on a new 4 year deal.

I like Berra a lot, but my vote has gone for Murphy. If you'd said at the start of the season he'd currently be on 11 goals i'd have raised an eyebrow, but he's played a massive part in this seasons goal tally via himself and assists, not to mention his overall contribution.

Massively underrated here.

Contenders were Berra (obviously) McGoldrick and Smith.

Honourable mention for the entire squad, who have all played their part in the first season for a very long time, when we've been able to look up the table with optimism, rather than down with dread!

McGoldrick was head and shoulders our best player until he got injured.

I think if McGoldrick had stayed fit and hit 20 goals for the season he'd have walked this! however Berra has a real chance now.

Would be happy with either. might have to flip a coin!

I like how many genuine contenders there are this year. This squad's come on a long way from Jimmy Bullard being able to take the prize for three months worth of loan play.

My vote's gone for Berra as well. It was between him and Murphy for me. As much as I don't want to overlook McGoldrick, who unquestionably could've won this award if he'd been fit all season, Didsy was largely delivering what I would've expected from him to a degree, whereas I feel Murph and Berra have exceeded my expectations, the latter massively. He's stepped between a partnership that many of us were cautious of seeing broken apart, but has justifiably made that role his own alongside Smith. The number of times I have seen him make a goal-saving challenge and get it absolutely spot on every time is remarkable, and to come from five goalless years at Wolves with five in a season (so far) for us is even more astonishing.

Has to be said though, look at the four guys that have been the most likely contenders this season - Berra, Murphy, McGoldrick and Smith - and not one of them cost this club a penny in transfer fees.

Smith again for me has been our most consistent performer. Only missed 2 games all season and chipped in with 5 goals.
Always thought he had the potential and delighted to see he has delivered on that promise.
The academy ought to be proud to have brought through a genuine first teamer. Future captain in my eyes

It's Berra for me! Williams has ten votes! Really?! He's been good but player of the season for 4 games?!

Genuinely struggling to decide, havent got the heart to choose after every single player player above my expectations (apart from Tabb and Hunt).
For me its between Berra who has been so consistent and just outstanding and i dont believe he has made any silly mistakes (not that i remember), Murphy because he has just came out of no where in my eyes, He has massively exceeded what i expected of him this season. Smith because he has also been very good and been chipping in with the goals just like Berra and Mcgoldrick who it seems like ages since he was last playing in a town shirt, so shifts my vote over to the other 3, but we would not be doing as well as we are without any single one of these players.
Just to point out i have been pretty disappointed with Crezzy this season, not done much for me, maybe thats a blessing in disguise and nobody bids for him in the summer and he guns it for us next season.

Berra (yet some on here slate him) or McGoldrick for me.

1. Berra just from McG followed closely by Smith. No midfielders should be no where near the mix.

It has to be David McGoldrick!
He is the best quality player Town have and without him Town would have had another grim season.
Berra has done well and is a good player but nonetheless McGoldrick is my Town player of the season.

I was sat deciding between mcgoldrick and Berra. It was a tough decision but eventually chose didsy. He is the only player in the whole squad who picks the ball and runs with it. (untill williams came) Imagine the two of them in the same team. But berra is also a terrific player.
