Now Impress Me
Thursday, 10th Apr 2014 06:00

Manager Mick McCarthy has challenged returning loanee Freddie Veseli to show him and Town fans what he can do having impressed Bury boss David Flitcroft and Shakers’ supporters during his 93-day spell at Gigg Lane. The 21-year-old was praised by Flitcroft and Bury players and fans following the completion of his spell at the weekend.

McCarthy says it should come as no shock that Veseli did well at League Two level, given his pedigree.

“So he should,” he said. “When we signed him he’d been at Manchester City and Manchester United and he’d been a Swiss U21 player, so I think he should come back with glowing reports from Bury.

“Bury have flown, David Flitcroft’s done great there, he’s got them up the league. I would expect he would.”

Veseli is back with the Town squad, he played in Monday’s U21s victory over Swansea at the centre of midfield, and McCarthy says it’s up to him to win a place in his senior matchday 18 during the remaining weeks of the season.

“That’s what he’s got to do, he’s got to impress me,” he added. “Impressing the Bury fans is one thing, impressing me and the Ipswich fans is another one completely. He’s back and we’ll see.”

Veseli, who played 18 times for the Shakers, has made only one appearance for the Blues since signing a two-year deal following his release from Old Trafford, a start in the 2-0 Capital One Cup defeat at Stevenage in August.

So are we going to question a manager that has got us in our highest position for years on a shoe string budget???
Wordsworth dropped due to playing 2 games in a week after being injured practically all season mm felt he would struggle with a third so soon.
he was rested for one game then brought back.
Taylor good talent but we are a team.

Tacticaly inept im afraid not disputing what hes done without funds has been remark able, but you seriously cant tell me chambers nice guy good pro hasent cost us a fair few points this season, we would already be in the playoffs this position was never addressed, we will have to agree to disagree

bill are you arguing Mick should have been playing Veseli at right back instead of Chambers? Laughable if so.

Confidence is a huge thing in sport, he'll feel like a big fish in a small pond I'm sure, put him back in with the bigger fish and he's not quite so confident....he won't be the first or the last, I feel Taylor is another I hate to say..

A run of games is always a big help at any level, you don't get that chance in the Championship..

Good work Mick, challenge him now to step up to the plate ..

Billm - as bluelady says mom Tuesday but name a replacement if chambers is not so good. Again goes back to shoe string budget.

I think the best he could hope for is a place on the bench in place of Richardson. I've been quite impressed with the brief glimpses of him I've seen though.

Give both him and Richardson a chance if we have any games left and have failed or reached the play-offs. Other than that I would play Chambers for every game unless he is injured or suspended.

Billm - again shoe string budget.
Do you not think if mm had money to spend he would not have 2 or 3 players for every position.

Whilst town are still in with a shout of getting into the play offs then Freddie isn't getting in the first XI, i doubt whether he'll get in the squad because Richardson is here until the end of the season on loan as cover for chambo. If it becomes impossible to get into the top six then mm should play him in any remaining fixtures to give him some experience. Next season town will have both veseli and hewitt back and hopefully mm will give them a chance to play but if smith, berra and chambo are all here next season then cant see mm changing things to accommodate one of them. Hewitt's played right midfield at gillingham and mm might see that as his best position. If mm gives richardson a contract then can see one or both of them leaving.

Billm- I have to agree with the majority but mainly I have to say that comments like " I have more money than that " and " I was there, were you " really don't help your cause.

billm - I am with you all the way and so are many other people. Just ignore these people who feel just because we are in the top half of the table that everything is perfect - it isn't and nor are they! We are a long, long way from being the team we should be, with or without money.

is he going to be given a chance to impress in the team though?
dont think we are playing a style that is anything like he has been brought up with,
maybe we could get him some videos of cambridge united under john beck then he might get the hang of football as mick sees it.
hopefully he will get his chance and kick on

Load of old baloney again from Mick because there is no way he will give him a chance instead of Chambers, so when is the lad going to get any chance to impress?
Unless there is an injury he's got no chance of getting a game ahead of the older players how ever good he is.

Go for it biilm, someone not scared to speak the truth about MM who because of his dire tactics is why I rarely go to watch the Town. Vesli, if he wants to play in aMM team will be doing extra training to learn how to pass backwards, sideways and how to hoof the ball 50 yards to no one in particular

if I was to controversial I apologise to a point, thanks for a few who share close to my own ideas or opinion, things are not as rosey as some people think, I love and support the team whom ever plays but as I said my opion tactically were a bit short on other teams that's what one man gets paid for(yes hes done well with nothing) but hes also cost to many points with his brand at times of negativity, big ty to hegansheroes
