McGoldrick Undergoes Op as Marriott Recalled
Thursday, 17th Apr 2014 14:09

Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that striker David McGoldrick will undergo a cartilage operation today and now has been ruled out for the season. McCarthy has also announced that he has recalled Jack Marriott from his loan spell at Skrill Premier Woking.

Blues 16-goal top scorer McGoldrick was closing in on a return from the knee ligament injury he picked up in February but suffered the new problem in training this week.

“He’s having an operation today on his cartilage, he’s damaged his cartilage this week,” the Town manager said.

“We’ll now just get him ready for the start of the season. It’s a shame because he had worked ever so hard, he’d been a fabulous, fabulous professional in how he’s rehabbed himself and his cartilage has just taken a hit unfortunately.”

McCarthy added: “I can’t do anything, that’s the way it is. I feel sorrier for him than for me, I wasn’t hanging out that if we got in the play-offs Didz would be fit because I never even thought he would be.

“So the fact that he might have been, well great, but we’re not in the play-offs yet anyway. Its just a shame for him because he’s going to have to get back down to it, it’s just a knockback. But he’ll be all right, he’ll be all right for the start of the season.”

The Blues boss says he has activated Marriott’s 24-hour recall clause and that he will be back at the club tomorrow.

Marriott, 19, scored 13 goals in 23 starts and one sub appearance across two spells with the Cards.

Could be a blessing in disguise. Was always a risk that he could come back too soon and then be out for a lot longer! This gives him time to rehab and focus 100% on getting a full preseason in for next year, regardless of the league we are in.

Also, while we are at it, give the man a new contract please Big Mick!

Good. Keep the team more or less as it is. The spirit is there and we are performing well.

Shame about didz. But will we see Marriott on the bench? Would be great to have him get some game time. Marriott to come on and score the goal that gets us into PO's?

Shame but play-offs are all if and buts at the moment anyhow.

May put a few teams off trying to nick him over the summer at least.

Will be interesting to see if Marriott goes ahead of Taylor in the pecking order.

Think that's confirmation that it would never have been safe to bring him back into action this season anyway. And it has to be said, we've coped a heck of a lot better without him than I ever imagined we would.

Sorry for him on a personal note, but should put any potential buyers off.

Good luck next season with us Dids.

Hopefully this is the start of what will turn out to be a full recovery! I'm sure he'll return to the form he showed at the start of the season when fully fit! COYB

Bad news about Didz but he'll be back nice and sharp for next season without being in the shop window. I'd love Marriott to get a run out before the end of the season!

Shame. Feel sorry for him, but hopefully he'll be back and fully fit for next season. Good decision to recall Marriott, particularly as SEB has picked up a niggle.

I second gazzmac4's comments, could be a double blessing, may deter some teams from bidding for him in the summer if he has a long term injury

Always thought Marriott might have a role to play before the end of this campaign. Would be great if he came on and did well. Good luck jack.

Marriot to get the nod in front of Taylor? MM would pick Dr Stephen Hawking in front of Taylor

Slightly off topic, but is there any reason we have to play Saturday and Monday while our rivals get the extra rest playing Friday and Tuesday?

Quote wayway "Marriot to get the nod in front of Taylor? MM would pick Dr Stephen Hawking in front of Taylor"

The risk of Taylor playing and netting a couple or more goals is a risk that McCarthy's ego won't allow him to take.

If Jack gets to play here's hoping he turns out to be the prodigal hero and starts on the road to being a first team regular.

Theres no doubt whatsoever that marriott would be ahead of taylor . Not necessarily because he should be but because taylor has been turning up late for training and has thus fallen out of favour.
