Good Friday for Town
Friday, 18th Apr 2014 17:11

Good Friday’s results went in favour of the play-off chasing Blues with Monday’s opponents Bournemouth and Reading losing and Brighton and Blackburn drawing. A win at Watford tomorrow would take Town up to sixth.

The Cherries, watched by Blues boss Mick McCarthy and assistant Terry Connor, were beaten 4-2 at home by Sheffield Wednesday despite the Owls having been reduced to 10 men at 2-2.

Reading, sixth going into today’s fixtures, suffered a significant blow to their play-off hopes as they lost 3-0 at Wigan, who cemented their fifth position. The result reduced the Royals’ goal difference to +10, now only two better than Town’s.

Brighton full-back Bruno scored an 83rd minute equaliser to see the Seagulls to a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield. The Sussex side are up to sixth ahead of Reading and Town by a point with their goal difference still +12.

Tenth-placed Blackburn, already outsiders for a top six place prior to today's fixtures, drew 0-0 at home to table-proppers Yeovil.

Elsewhere, Brentford confirmed their promotion from League One to the Championship, joining Wolves.

Meanwhile, Elliott Hewitt helped his loan club Gillingham to a 2-0 home victory over Tranmere in League One.

Jack Doherty's loan club Waterford United are in action against Shamrock Rovers at home in the Airtricity League First Division this evening.

I just watched and suffered sky sports ,watching the goals go in. A good day but Brighton result a bummer , with their GD we need two more points than them , so a win tomorrow and its in our own hands. COYB

Bournemouth are not gone, but they'll now feel they HAVE to beat us on Monday, which will make them all the more dangerous.

Apart from the Brighton draw everything has gone our way today(Bonkers this league to quote MM!!!!) and so to Watford tomorrow where we all need to make as much noise as we can from kick off to the end and inspire our boys to get the 3 points, I can remember seeing us winning the championship v Villa in 61/62(the Texaco cup!! it's a trophy after all we beat Norwich lmao) Wembley In 78, home and away in 81 to win the eufa cup the exciting days under George before it went tits up!!, since then we loyal fans have suffered more than enough dross I am so full of anticipation for the coming 4 league games(then 3 play offs) I just hope the old ticker holds up!!! come on all you guys if you are not there in person scream like hell at the radio and send the Town up.

Souperjim, that's my opinion on B'mouth and others, which I stated 2 weeks ago. I stand by the prediction, unlike many others on here who just press the minus button when proved wrong. keep pressing boys, because I'm smiling from ear to ear.

It's ours to lose now, I just hope so bad we win tomorrow so bad, so many times we said if we'd won that game, if we hadn't conceded, let's not have one of those days! We can do this!!!

Tough game tomorrow, got a feeling there's going to be a lot of twists before the season is out - but glad by and large the results went for us today but they only have gone our way if we don't lose!

With these results today it's in our hand and we are surely favourites!! All we need to do is win the rest of our games and we've got it :/ COYB!! Hope the boys stand up to the pressure of knowing its in our hand.... One game at a time

Watford away is always a tough game for us & in a strange way today's results will put additional pressure on us. A win for Waford + 3 points from their game in hand would leave them very much in the mix too, so I am taking nothing for granted here.
A win would be fantastic & we should definitely go for it, but a draw would be a decent result in the circumstances.

All results have been good ... Even Huddersfield getting a point against Brighton, particularly as we beat them comfortably. Watford won't be easy though.

For me, the biggest result of the day is Burnley beating Blackpool. Don't want to tempt fate but it's all going to be pie in the sky if we lose tomorrow! I just hope we avoid defeat :)
