Town Down to Ninth
Tuesday, 22nd Apr 2014 22:32

Town have dropped to ninth in the Championship following Reading’s 2-0 home victory over Middlesbrough this evening.

The Royals have climbed back to sixth, two points ahead of the Blues and also have a goal difference six higher than Town’s.

All the clubs in the play-off fight have two matches remaining except for fifth-placed Wigan, who have three. Watford in 12th also have a game in hand but are now seven points off sixth and look out of contention.

Meanwhile, academy keeper Michael Crowe was an unused sub as the Wales U19s beat Montenegro 2-0 in a friendly at Dragon Park, Newport this afternoon.

The Welsh youngsters, who are coached by former Blues midfielder Geraint Williams, take on the same opposition again on Thursday. Wales are playing the games to prepare for their UEFA elite round qualifiers in the summer in Portugal.

Burnley can no longer win the league after tonight's results, so have nothing to play for. I hope Marcus Evans has sent them a vat of wine to congratulate them on their promotion.

We had our chance, sorry chances!!! We are 3 points behind and another point with goal difference and 3 teams above us to slip up, if we wanted to get in the play offs, we needed a minimum 4 points from the last 2 games not 1, next year maybe. This year... We need a miracle! Feel if we were meant to be there, we would already be there, loads of positives for next season and already a great achievement, would rather go for it and attack and finish 12th than not even try

Yes we have had our chances to get into the Top 6 but it wasn't too be. The team has, to a certain extent, been punching above its weight this season and yet Mick & Terry have given Town arguably their best season for years. A few good signings - and Mick has already shown he doesn't have to spend big to get gems - and next season holds alot if promise for Town.

Reading and Nottm Forest have shown what you can do if you take the game to the opposition. In these days they have taken their chance unlike us on Monday who relied on route 1 hoofing football. We should have taken our chances against Watford and Bournemouth but no, MM had to leave forwards on the bench and go for that magic point. Shame..it was their for the taking.

If McGoldrick hadn't got injured we would be in the playoffs by now. Johnny Williams providing the supplies and creativity from centre mid. Oh well. lets take it down to the final match. COYB

Yep - i wish we had gone behind on Monday - that tends to force the hand to play more attacking !! Agree though we have really punched above our weight when you look at some of the squads and resources clubs have around us - Dids was a huge loss - massive
Cresswell , Williams and Dids would have been a great link up

But if you had said in November 2012 Bottom of the league

Season One - Keep us up
Season Two - Play Offs/Top 10
With no investment in transfer money !
I would have been very happy

The pressure is on us now next season and I hope ME supports him - MM deserves that
Just think of the money he threw at RK and PJ!!
We should be thinking P offs def next season as a realistic goal

Whilst there are comments on here about us being so negative Saturday, people must remember that we are in this position in the league by playing like that all season.

MM isn't going to change it to a gung-ho style on the off chance. If we had we could have easily lost that match by a big score line, because Bournemouth were no mugs.

Yes, it was desperately disappointing to see us give the lead away twice. No, I am not a fan of the hoof ball we are currently playing. I also recognise that we don't have the players to play any other way. There is no real pace in the team, passing is often wayward and the ball control of the receiving player is often weak.

That is why MM has worked miracles in getting us to where we are with the nucleus of the team that was dead and buried when he turned up. He's done it by sheer hard work and getting the players playing to their strengths and as a team and for that I applaud him and thank him. I don't expect the football to be any prettier in the next two matches but if we can win them and Reading and Brighton slip up, we will be in the play-offs.

.......... that's about where we deserve to be - halfway, or just above.

Realistically not good enough for the Play Off's - the way we play the game.
Blessing in disguise maybe, because had we made the play off's we would have to attack to win thro' - and we can't do that, now can we ? - and playing for the draw would see us fail miserably against any of the top five.
