Hyam and Anderson Miss Burnley Trip
Thursday, 24th Apr 2014 14:54

Midfielders Luke Hyam and Paul Anderson have been ruled out of Saturday’s game at Burnley, while Anthony Wordsworth is a doubt, but better news is that centre-half Christophe Berra is fit to return to the side having missed Monday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

Manager Mick McCarthy says the Scotland international is over his knee problem: “Christophe’s trained today, he’s fine. Luke Hyam won’t be involved, it’s too soon for him. He’s strained his hip flexor.”

Wordsworth and Anderson were subbed on Monday suffering with a dead leg and a hamstring problem respectively.

McCarthy added: “Woody’s still feeling the effects, he hasn’t trained today, he’s feeling quite stiff and sore and as for Ando I think the game will come too quick for him, he won’t be involved. All the others are all right, they’ve all trained.”

Oh dear. That no doubt means a midfield consisting of Skuse/Tabb/Hunt/Green?

Just as well we dont need a win then........

Has to be Tatlor for right midfield on Saturday. What are the odds MM will play him?

Good news about berra, shame about hyam tho coz I think his tenacity would certainly of helped Saturday against two physical midfielders in Jones and marney.
Thing is tho I thought our back 4 Saturday played very very well. I thought Richardsons full debut at right back was very impressive, looked to get forward and was very good defensively, and chambers was my man of the match at centre half. And this Saturday I would much rather have him with his pace against Danny ings. I know thismay see ghim harsh coz he's been outstanding all season I would drop Tommy and have Berra and Chambers at center half. Berra to deal with the physical target man Ashley Barnes, and Chambo against Danny Ings pace. For me I think that could be our best pairing for Saturday and even better having Richardson against Kightly I would feel very comfortable with. Would be harsh if Richardson is dropped for me.

Berra back is the best news here.
Aswell as his defensive ability he's the best we have in the air for free kicks & corners.
Burnley game is definately "last chance saloon" imop.
Hope if it does'nt happen we at least go out Kicking & Fighting.
COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!

All of a sudden just when we don't need it we're picking up injuries! - Skuse with Green in the centre doesn't inspire with confidence. Got nothing to lose now, I'd personally like to see Taylor start with Williams I think Garv's starting 11 is about right, at least it give's the opposition something to think about going forward.

The majority of players in this squad, if played in their rightful, and best position, are capable of achieving 15 - 20% more - individually and collectively.

Add that to what we've had this season in terms of progress / league position - and we could so easily have been another Burnley.
With that could so easily have been some entertaining play, and results accordingly.

The problem of having a small squad. If injuries hit your in trouble. Moving forward ME will have to accept we need more options in the squad.

I'd like to see Marriott get on to get some minutes. Wasn't it Burnley he came on against last year. If we're chasing the game or even if we're out of the game, it would be some good game time.

One of the reasons we struggled against Bournmouth was because we missed Hyams mopping up in midfield

Come on Mick
Do what all the fans here have been asking for and play Taylor. Our best player. (Williams isn't ours - before all the 'Football Manager' kids start marking me down.)
You have nothing to lose. so try and attack for once.

arniem 100 per cent correct, I hold my hands up not been hyams greatest fan all season but I said the same, think there is a place in our team for him at last as the guy who does the dirty work he should just be a defensive midfielder only mm should stop trying to convert him into something hes not, I apologise to luke for a few of my out bursts since the season started
