McCarthy: Richardson So Professional
Friday, 25th Apr 2014 06:00

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he’s been delighted with on-loan right-back Frazer Richardson’s attitude and professionalism since he joined the club from Middlesbrough in January.

Richardson, 31, made his first start for the Blues in Monday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, having previously made three sub appearances, and has said he would be keen to join Town on a permanent basis when his Boro terms are up in the summer.

“Frazer’s a good player,” McCarthy said. “And what’s been lovely about Frazer is his attitude and professionalism and the fact that he knew he was coming in as cover.

“He knew that barring injury Chambo would play there, and he’s been supportive and he’s done everything so professionally so that when he finally got his chance, he didn’t look out of place.

“He was as fit and as ready to go as he would have been if he’d played five or six games. He might argue with that point in the last 10 minutes but he was excellent.”

Paul Green, who is on loan from Leeds, has similarly impressed the Town manager: “Those two lads especially have been remarkable. I can only compliment them on their professionalism and their attitude to it.

“They’ve been outstanding in the way they’ve trained, they’ve not played every week, but every time they’ve been called upon they’ve been ready. I’ve been delighted with them."

It looks like both players will be on their way to Portman Road in the summer, as both are out of contract. I'd be happy with that, so long as we bring in those much needed wide midfield players (with a good goalscoring recors please!) and probably another striker and goalkeeper.

I trust Mick to make the right calls and hope next season will be the big one as I do not think we will overhall the three above us with only two games left. Overall excellent progress this season - onwards and upwards.

Whatever happens over the next two games Town have had a fantastic season.MM I'm sure has already in mind who he wants to bring in during the summer, and I suppose selling AC would bring in cash I would hope to purchase a few players.MM usually does his dealing early so expect changes in May/June.Good Luck tomorrow.COYB

Agreed. With 30+ goals from the forwards, and decent numbers from the defence, it's clear that a little more firepower from the midfield could end up being the make or break this season.
With a little tweaking in the summer there's no reason not to follow the path of Burnley and Leicester.

Bit harsh to imply their departure. Richardson was excellent against Bournemouth and every Club needs squad players. Richardson to me fits that bill as does Green. With a pre season Ebanks-Blake could be like a new signing. It has been difficult for him with no pre=-season and niggling injuries and cameo appearances but I hope he stays for next season. Not so sure about Hunt but he does give his all and won't be too expensive to keep. The important thing for me is to get some pace into the side and a craftsman in midfield together with a top notch goalkeeper.

Richardson is a quality full back - should have been playing there more this season.

Can see us starting again next season with Berra in the centre with Smith - and Chambo 'trying his best' but never succeeding as a pukka full back.
This will again be a stumbling block from the off - if we do.
No doubt someone will have to help him out again, at the expense of their own game i.e as happened recently with Wordsworth.
This will not be progress - if it happens.
