Brighton Win to Move Up to Sixth
Brighton Win to Move Up to Sixth
Friday, 25th Apr 2014 21:55

Brighton moved into the final play-off place following their 2-0 home victory over Yeovil this evening. Kazenga LuaLua opened the scoring on 78 and Jesse Lingard added the second in the final minute.

The result confirms the Glovers' relegation back to League One after one season in the Championship.

Ninth-placed Town now go into Saturday’s game at Burnley four points from the Seagulls in sixth and two behind Reading in seventh, who travel to Doncaster. Nottingham Forest, who visit Bournemouth, are in eighth ahead of the Blues on goal difference.

Brighton have to go to Forest, who are also ahead of us of course.

Oh well, it makes our objective clear: we must win at Burnley and home to Birmingham (who we could send down!). I hope we at least give it a good go and attack.

Whatever happens, it's been a good season and we now have a decent squad of players that we own rather than loans. Next season we can look forward with optimism.

Erm... I think we play Sheffield Wednesday on the last day, not Birmingham!

If we don't sign at least 11 world class players and walk the division next year and win both cups and are voted European team of the year there will be people calling for McCarthy's head. Personally I think the playoffs are a reasonable target for next season. This season it's only a long shot and in reality has only ever been. No point giving up, of course, but I'd bet my left leg against us making the playoffs and winning them. I still dream but I don't live in dreamland (actually I'm in Whitton according to the poll card).

Well what a season - personally I am proud of what we have done this year - so much better than being in a relegation battle - very optimistic about next year if we don't make play offs
MM we trust and he has brought the good times back - thank you Mick

Doesn't really change anything. Burnley was a must win game even if Brighton dropped points. Amazing season and already looking forward to next. Massive three months transfer wise for ITFC.

To many opportunities lost in the last month or so to get into the top 6 whilst forest and brighton struggled. Now to late to get there. but praise that if we do well enough in the last 2 games to be in top 8, but alas two defeats and we drop to 11th, which is still better then the propect in previous years.

Looking at the teams that could be dropping down from the premier and those that are coming up from the first division I don't really see why, as long as we keep our better core players, we can't challenge for automatic promotion next season. Obviously would like a win today but won't be to hacked of if we don't as long as we put in a performance and don't roll over.COYB

Stating the obvious, but anything less than a win today means season over. Even two wins is highly unlikely to be enough.

Nonetheless important we finish the season strongly, a top ten finish would be decent considering the position we were in before Mick joined us.

2 wins in 6 is what has cost us at the business end of the season and shipping in 9 goals whilst lining up defensively ?
We need a keeper, an attacking right back ,and most of all a central midfielder who can put his foot on the ball keep us possession and pick a pass . Majority of games we are chasing the ball because we cannot retain possession or slow the game down ,hence so many points lost from winning positions

To me only getting 2pts at home against Forest and Bournemouth has cost us, typical loss to Watford wasn't surprising.

Will be interesting to see our points to game ratio this season compared to last season when Mick took over.
