Clegg New European Games Chief
Monday, 28th Apr 2014 11:30

Former Town chief executive Simon Clegg has been appointed the chief operating officer of Baku 2015, the organisers of the inaugural European Games which the European Olympic Committees are staging in Azerbaijan in June 2015.

Clegg, who was previously a senior consultant on the project, left his role with the Blues in February last year.

Clegg, who takes over from American Jim Scherr, who has resigned after a year in the job, said: "I am flattered to have been invited by the [Azerbaijan] Minister of Youth and Sport to take up this new role within the Operating Committee.

"There is an outstanding existing team within Baku 2015 many of whom I have worked with over the last nine months and I know that together we can deliver an event which the Azerbaijani people, the European Olympic Family and most importantly the athletes of Europe can be proud of.

"Any inaugural event creates exciting opportunity to establish something different and our desire is to establish the European Games in Baku at the forefront of continental sporting events around the globe."

Does anyone else reckon that Simon Clegg is actually a real life 'Ian Fletcher' (of Twenty Twelve and more recently W1A, fame). I bet he is. So that's all good...

Regency Blue - ask for a refund. It's an outrage. You pay your fees and they don't even tailor the news to your taste.

Oh, hang on....

Derek Bowden is CEO at Essex County Cricket Club. Don't really understand the vitriol against David Sheepshanks. He is often in the East of England Co-op Stand for home games - shows where his loyalty still lies.
