Your Chance to Play at Portman Road
Monday, 28th Apr 2014 14:32

Town are after players and teams for next week’s Portman Cup and Soccer Sixes events which will be staged on the main pitch at Portman Road.

The Portman Cup, which takes place on Tuesday 6th May, offers the chance to be part of a team playing a 90-minute match managed by a Town legend.

As well as the opportunity to grace the Portman Road turf, the day includes use of the dressing rooms and dugouts, personalised kit, award presentations, a post-match meal for you and a guest, a commemorative DVD and a photo CD. You can read about last year’s game here.

There are only two places left to be filled for the Portman Cup, which costs £250 + VAT per person.

Town’s Soccer Sixes tournament, on Thursday 8th May, offers the chance to play against a Blues legends side and is for squads of 10.

The all-day competition, which costs £50 per person plus VAT, consists of a preliminary group stage, followed by knock-out rounds.

If you’re interested in playing in the Portman Cup or entering a team into the Soccer Sixes competition or want more information, call the Town sales team on 01473 400594 or email sales@itfc.co.uk.

How can Ipswich stage this and not the Suffolk Premier Cup final - disgraceful!!

Big- maybe it would have been moved if we were in the playoffs, but now we are mathmatically out of it, they arranged this then instead, but the Suffolk Cup needed more notice I would imagine.

Yep, big Gaz, was thinking the same.
This is a big slap in the face to non-league local football, if ITFC don't reverse their decision on the three Suffolk FA games. Barry Manilow is not a valid excuse.

Both the above would have moved had Town got in the play-offs. The decision to move the local cup finals wasn't entirely down to Town. As I understand it, they and the Suffolk FA were unable to find dates which suited all parties once the Football League had announced the play-off dates.

Portman road cup has been arranged for last few months as I'm playing so been filled in over end of season, would of been rearranged if we made play offs

I assume Town didn't want the finals to be played before the end of the season, which isn't unfair, and that no dates beyond that could be found.

Certainly think those finals should be played at Portman Road and hope dates are found for them next year. Not really sure why the Football League decides the play-off dates two-thirds of the way through the season.

big gaz67 ......... not a good PR excercise for the Club in not hosting the Suffolk Premier Cup Final - and personally agree with you DISGRACEFUL.

Take your point Phil that the Club may have wanted to finish the season before hosting this match - but that's a bit of a scrape of the barrel in finding a reason. One game wouldn't make one iota of difference to the pitch whatsoever.

Needs sorting - and reversed for next season - that's if Suffolk FA will ask again. Would think they are not best pleased.

Any chance we could bum the Suffolk Cup anymore?? I'm not from 'round 'ere' but I can't say I've actually heard of the thing being played at Portman Road before. Is it usually? And why do we care? Isn't it just a load of sh*t local teams?! Lol. Are there any decent sides in Suffolk - I can't name one (apart from Ipswich) within the top six or seven divisions!!

I'm amazed there are places for the portman cup, I played last year and loved it so I'm playing again this year. I couldn't recommend it enough, if you're a town fan then its an unforgettable experience.

Who else is playing this year?

Whats the standard like?

I played in this last year as a treat to myself for my 40th. For any Town fan that can afford it I would say do it whilst they continue to run it.
The standard is varied. From 40/50 something's to younger players. That doesn't mean to say that the older ones aren't any worse than the younger ones. We played out a 1-0 game which apparently is rare. I put it down to 2 very good goalkeepers!
Anyone that is playing, have a great day and pace yourself well. There is still the penalty shoot out at the end of the game.
