Ex-Canary Wyatt Agrees Pro Deal With Town
Friday, 16th May 2014 21:01

Former Norwich City academy left-back Ben Wyatt has revealed that he has agreed a one-year pro deal with Town. The 18-year-old spent time on trial with the Blues towards the end of the season and featured for the U21s.

Wyatt, who completed his two-year scholarship with the Canaries this season, tweeted: “It would have been good to stay [at Norwich] but the club decided otherwise! I'd like to say thanks to everyone for their support personally over eight years.

“But my main focus now is at my new club and I am delighted to sign my first pro contract at Ipswich Town! I feel this is a great opportunity.”

Born in Norwich, Wyatt was in the Canaries’ FA Youth Cup-winning side in 2012/13, having been with them since their U11s. Earlier this year, he spent time training with the England U18s.

Earlier today, Blues second-year scholar Omar Sowunmi also agreed a one-year pro deal at Portman Road..

Meanwhile, Leeds have confirmed Town loanee Paul Green's release at the end of his contract. Blues boss Mick McCarthy has said he'll weigh-up whether to offer the Republic of Ireland international terms later in the summer.

There's a lot of talk about young players not getting high level competitive action and Norwich are the worst culprits. Relegation fodder and they STILL preferred to splurge their Sky Product lucre on overseas duffers rather than give any of their FA Youth Cup winning side a run out. Thank you very much Budgies, we'll take those Murphy twins as well...

FA Youth Cup winner poached from Norwich? Not bad.

Good luck to the lad, got some stiff competition in LB.

I don't know if this article is going to do him any favours. He is Norwich born, bred and through and through, it means he is going to have to a) be good enough to not only feature in the first team but shine and b) then say in the press something that equates to the fact that now he has come to Town he realises what a bigger and better club we are then budgies.
I think it is really brave of him actually and I hope he turns out to be good - but everything about the picture evokes distaste in me, the kit, the badge, the seats, and I couldn't work out why the figures on his shirt had six fingers and one had a banjo but then saw the name of the sponsors! ;0)

Sounds good, who was the lad they had in the middle who was let go by Chelsea. He's a very good player, think he was their captain.

Am I reading in to this too much or could this be McCarthy preparing for Cresswell to depart? Back up for Mings

you are reading it right mkblue96, Mick has been talking him up all season so that he can sell him to fund strengthening for next season. He will have a price in his head that it will need to be though, 20 per cent to tranmere so think Mick would be looking for 2.6 million offer absolute minimum if M.E. let him keep the two million for transfers? I think he should be worth 6 million personally, English, right age, natural left back, great stats ( even if we know that really a lot of his assists are corners )

Sounds promising. If they're good and they're ours, don't care where they came from before that!

Town normally sign a young player, and I find myself getting attached to them fairly quickly. This lad I may struggle with - the Norwich thing leaves a bitter taste and he sounds like a full-on Budgie. I hope he can win me over though - lets not forget, Liverpool signed a player from Everton in similar circumstances a few years ago; he went by the name of Jamie Carragher!

Clive woods was a budgie, didnt stop him being one of our best ever palyers. Trevor Whymark was a Diss boy (Burston I believe) and he was a blue legend!!

Welcome to a proper football Club sitb tradition history and most importantly one that will give you a chance if you are good enough. It's the budgies loss and Towns gain IMO. Building for the future and getting players from our inferior feeder club. Sweet!

Please forgive my ignorance, but, how does this work? Do we have to pay compensation or as it's his first pro contract is this not the case. On another note, I do like the idea of beating the budgies easily next season, take off Mings with ten mins to go, give him a standing ovation infront of his new friends up the A140, then replace him with one they missed out on.
