Town Away at Crawley
Tuesday, 17th Jun 2014 09:42

Town will play League One Crawley away in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The sides have not previously faced one another in a competitive game, although the Blues played pre-season friendlies at the Broadfield Stadium in July 2007, when they won 5-1, and last summer when the game ended 2-1 to the Blues with Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick (pen) on the scoresheet.

The Crawley squad currently includes former Blue Andy Drury and one-time Town academy midfielder Josh Simpson, while ex-striker Billy Clarke was released at the end of 2013/14.

The tie will be played in the week commencing August 11th and must be concluded on the night. Last year, Town lost 2-0 away at Stevenage at the first round stage of the competition.

The draw was seeded on the basis of last season’s final league positions and then split on a north and south basis.

Relegated former Premier League sides Norwich City and Fulham are not involved at the first round stage but Cardiff City, who finished bottom of the table, were amongst the seeded southern clubs.

The 2014/15 Championship fixtures will be announced at 9am tomorrow when as usual they will be available on TWTD.

So we'll send a reserve team who might scrape through. Exciting stuff.

Decent draw, this side of London would have been preferable but not a bad little trip. Let's hope we play better than we did at Stevenage.

Hope we take it a bit more seriously than last year.

Why as seeds are we always drawn away?

I only live 5 minutes away from the Broadfield Stadium so its a cracking draw for me!

My youngest is a Crawley Season Ticket holder so he will go into one end and the rest of us into the away end! Just hope we can keep our 100% record in tact or there will be hell to pay!

Simply don't think Mick will take it too seriously. But let's hope for a cup run. Decent draw.

Very happy with this draw as it's close to my work. Went to the pre season game at Broadfield last summer and it was a tidy little ground. I think with a decent turn out, there would be a good atmosphere down there.

I think this will be a tougher game than last season at Stevenage so Mick will need to take it a little more seriously...

Ah well a good tie to field a very weakened team and loose as we don't want to have a cup run to get in the way of the league games. That has been the view in the last few season's and I don't see that changing now.
