Parr to Meet Town on Monday - Updated
Friday, 4th Jul 2014 14:15

Town are targeting former Crystal Palace left-back Jonathan Parr as Aaron Cresswell’s replacement and he will meet with the Blues on Monday, according to his father who is also his advisor.

Roger Parr told Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten that there is a “big chance” that the 25-year-old will join the Blues following his release by the Eagles: "We travel there to have a meeting with the club on Monday."

Parr senior continued: “At Ipswich he will be first choice. Jonathan had a meeting with the manager and had a good conversation with him, and Jonathan knows the captain. It is important to have some relationships in place.”

He added: “We know there is a very good club, which has a nice stadium and good crowd. There are also important. Everything looks very positive.”

Former Lyn and Aalesund man Parr, who had initially hoped to stay in the Premier League, has also been interesting Bolton and clubs elsewhere in Europe but Town are his preferred choice. Terms have been agreed but the player is yet to confirm his decision.

Bolton's interest appears to be at an end, the Trotters having signed another former Crystal Palace left-back, Dean Moxey, yesterday.

Oslo-born Parr, who is 6ft tall, has won Norwegian caps at U17, U19, U21 and senior levels.

He made 82 starts and 19 sub appearances for Palace, scoring two goals. Town fans may remember him best for having been stretchered off with an ankle injury during the Blues' 3-0 victory over the Eagles at Portman Road in April 2013 following a solid but fair Richard Stearman challenge.

The Blues squad will be travelling to Ireland on Sunday ahead of their week-long training camp at the Carton House hotel in Co Kildare.

Not good news for Mings!

So, Mick doesn't see Mings as first choice then as he has said on numerous occasions. I always liked Parr when he played here, solid, hard working, athletic; he would be a good signing for us. Hopefully his wages wouldn't be enormous as he was a squad player at Palace. Decent signing. I'd feel sorry for Mings though, based on his appearances last year he looked decent.

Now this would be a fantastic signing, if he can keep injury free then he would make the left back position his own, no question.

Mings still isn't ready to be first choice imo, and replacing Cresswell with a free transfer would allow the cash to be spent in other areas of the team.

Really hope this happens!

It doesn't necessarily mean Mick doesn't trust Mings. As good as Mings has looked when he's played, he still hasn't played that many games at this level and Mick was always going to get someone else in so we at least have 2 decent players for that position.

Parr would be a good signing, a good age, good experience and obviously keen to play regular football rather than pick up a pay packet and sit on the bench in the PL.

Parr would be a good signing. Mings will still be in contention for a first team place and would have the experience of Parr to fall back on. Hope this is the first of a flurry of new signings, our squad was nowhere near big enough last season.
Could see 4 or 5 free transfers coming in now,but quality free transfers

Thought we'd be linked with Parr sooner or later... and good job too !
He's a solid player who knows what this league is all about, he's still a good age and he's on a free. Win win !!!

Rule of thumb with Mick is he doesn't take chances with young fairly inexperienced players (which Mings largely is at this level), look at Marriot, Hewitt and as Mick is largely a defensive minded manager this is utmost importance. With regards Henshall it will be interesting to see if Mick actually starts him or 'bit parts' him or eventually sends him out on loan.
Re: 2011 Stearman tackle thing, incorrect as Stearman wasn't on loan then, 2013? :)

Hope this happens as we will have 2 very good left backs battling for a place then

Although i believe Mings can step up in place of Cresswell, Parr would be an excellent signing for us as proven at championship level with Prem experience. There would be plenty of resale value as well for us due to him being available on a free.

Get this deal done Mick !

Hope Stearman didn't do too much damage to that ankle!

This guy sparks me as a bit big-headed if his Father is saying he's going to walk into the First team and he already has contacts at the club. Reminds me of Connor Wickham's dad saying he was going to walk into Sunderland side, its taking him a few years hasn't it!

Good replacement for Cresswell without using any of his fee is a big bonus. That means we can get a few creative players in with the money instead hopefully!

Mings' natural position is CB, remember. What a load of you guys seem to be suggesting is that we go into a campaign with one LB?
Seeing as we did well with JW at the end of the season, we could get him cheaper than other clubs (i.e. more peaceful negotiation). Good experience, good age... Although, these reports are not to dissimilar to what we encountered with Jewell, so until MM says anything, I won't believe it.

Im confused. MM stated that Tyrone Mings would be Cressys replacement as first choice at LB but Parrs Dad stated “At Ipswich he will be first choice''
Hmmm.......

good signing, was showing a lot of promise before his injury.
I know many disagree, but personally I don't think Mings is good enough to be first choice from what I've seen of him

Will be very pleased if this comes off especially as he will be free. Have always been impressed with his work ethic and up to that crunch tackle by Stearman he and Williams were giving us all sorts of problems down our right hand side. As for Mings I am sure his time will come and with so many games in our unforgiving league both Parr and Mings will get their fair share of games.

You're right, 2013, amended. Not sure where 2011 came from.

One thing I find puzzling Mick McCarthy said he "believes England manager Roy Hodgson took the right approach by naming a young squad for the World Cup" yet he shows a reluctance to give our own younger players a chance.
Also what is the latest news on our Category One application.

Its not about whether Mings is good enough or not its about having competition for each position. If Mings or Parr want that 1team shirt they need to consistently at the top of their game. Have that throughout the team and its a top 6 (at least) finish.

Interesting. I like Mings, but would have thought he is more suited to a centre back role? I think this would be an excellent signing.
