Newcastle Duo Linked
Saturday, 5th Jul 2014 09:34

Newcastle youngsters Shane Ferguson and Paul Dummett could be on Town’s radar, according to reports in the North-East.

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle claims Northern Ireland international left-back or left winger Ferguson, 22, is on Town’s list of potential replacements for Aaron Cresswell, while Wales international Dummett, also a 22-year-old left-back, could also be amongst their options.

They report that Ferguson, who has another two years on his contract at St James’ Park and who has spent the last season and a half on loan at Birmingham, would be available for around £1 million, while a further loan may also be a possibility.

Dummett, who has had loan spells at Gateshead and St Mirren, is said to be available for loan with the Magpies keen to keep hold of him having handed him a six-year deal last season. Both players have made a handful of starts and sub appearances for their parent club.

While the Blues are in the market for a new left-back, former Crystal Palace man Jonathan Parr currently seems likely to be that player with his father and advisor Roger yesterday revealing that he is due to meet the club on Monday and that there is a “big chance” his son will join Town.

Despite the sale of Cresswell for an initial £3.75 million — rising to £7 million if appearance milestones are hit — it seems unlikely that the Blues would pay a fee of £1 million for a relatively inexperienced young left-back such as Ferguson.

Would much rather have Parr and use the money more wisely on players for other positions

if we are going to spend surely it should be on a creative CM player!

If we can get Parr on a free then that would be better business, coz we canthen look at getting some creativity and hopefully goals into midfield and possibly a striker, because with his injury I cant see didz producing to the same level as what he did last season, thats a worry for me as he'll be playing catch up, having missed a large chunk of pre season

Personally would choose Parr..don't know much about Ferguson..seen Dummet play a few times and he seems a bit of a donkey.

What's wrong with Mings surely he deserves his chance

Just speculation about the Newcastle lads. Sounds like the Parr situation is more likely and agree with others that we spend the money on an AM and poss a striker. MM obviously isn't convinced with Mings, much like the Hewitt situation.

There's no way this'll. Nothing of either of these deals makes any sense whatsoever!
Parr wants & probably will sign for us come Monday & Mings will provide perfect competition / cover for him.
£1m on an 'un-proven' & fairly unknown player when Parr is not only available but publicly made his desire known that Ipswich is his preferred choice of club is just silly.
The money will be spent much more wisely should MM be given the freedom to spend, which we fully expect.

Parr with Mings as back up. Spend the money in midfield.

I'd be well chuffed with Ferguson, but as a winger.

If Parr signs it seems unlikely that we'd go looking for another left back.

Ferguson for me...great player who I've seen play a lot for N Ireland, and has always impressed me when at left back for Newcastle

Play Mings and bring in a loan/free left back. Use the money to buy a Jonny Williams type player who can play in the hole behind McGoldrick.

Cannot believe Ameobi is linked - Donkey - 50 goals in 300 plus games no thanks
Would rather look at those who played well last year in lower leagues and be hungry
Antoni Sarcevic - Midfielder , or Hogan/ Winnell up front -Winnell was at Wolves - maybe with MM and TC ?
