Milne: Cresswell Cash Will Go to Mick
Tuesday, 8th Jul 2014 19:01

Joint-MD Ian Milne has confirmed that the cash from the sale of left-back Aaron Cresswell will go to manager Mick McCarthy towards strengthening his squad with more signings on the way. Last week, Cresswell was sold to West Ham for an initial fee of £3.75 million, rising to £7 million after Premier League appearance milestones have been hit.

Asked whether that cash would go to McCarthy at this afternoon's press conference to announce the new Greene King sponsorship, Milne said: “Absolutely. That will be reinvested in the club and we wish Aaron great success.

“I think it’s time for him to step up to the Premier League. I certainly see him as a future England left-back, I hope he does too.

“We wish him well, but with the players coming in and our existing squad, we’ve the nucleus of a very good squad which Mick continues to build on. Also, Mick is signed up for another three years, so I think we’re fairly solid.”

He added: “It’s been an exciting time and hopefully there’ll be more [signings] to come as well. We are bringing more players in.”

One of those players looks set to be Notts County keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, although that deal is still to be concluded.

@rambohambo: Eagles refused a move to Town because of location in january I think it was, so I think its highly doubtful that he would come here now

This is great news, absolutely outstanding news Infact. This proves further more how much the board are backing MM, TC & the Club.
I think Eagles would be a good signing. Definitely would give Anderson good competition down the Right flank.
More importantly I think, as I've said before on more than one occasion, we really need another creative midfielder to play along Skuse and also give Wordsworth healthy competition in the middle of the park.
Another RB would be ideal, not the most important, but definitely needed to an extent.

think youll find sindre, that the reason he turned the move down because of location was because it was a loan deal. so he wouldn't have been moving his family down here with him. may be different if it a permanent move. but its excellent news that the money going to squad building, along with the greene king money too. lets hope we can get the players we need to be able to compete at the top end of the table

must add, that having just looked at the poll on cresswells transfer fee. I really cannot believe that there are people not happy with the fee we're getting for him. its a top deal, maybe the best deal this club has done for some time.

This is very good news. And unlike recent seasons the most of the business is not last minute scrambling.

I have total confidence in Mick to spend the money well, both on wages to bring new players in on free transfers and perhaps some modest transfer fees to sign some new young players. I doubt we will be seeing big money transfers.

ITFC deals seem to be done so quickly these days, but the Bialkowski one is dragging a bit. Hopefully patience will pay and we will get him.

Of asking if we've signed Burley and Wark, as above, we could do with a decent right back and a goal getting central midfielder...

Excellent news. He uses the word signings. Not signing. This is very reassuring.

I hope the money will be invested wisely, and not in british players. They are to expensive and we could get 3 players for 1 if the players were from latin america.

Can you imagine spending the whole £3.75 mill on just a creative midfielder?? Ouch

Am I the only one who thinks "That will be reinvested in the club" is a bit of a politicians answer? I hope I'm wrong, but I'll believe it when I see it. Certainly anyone expecting us to pay a fee above a few hundred thousand for anyone is in for some disappointment I think...

Offer £2m for Williams? I'd seen they quoted Swansea £8m!
