Two Trialists Face Gills
Saturday, 26th Jul 2014 14:13

Trialists Balint Bajner and Kevin Bru start for the Blues in today’s friendly at Gillingham (KO 3pm).

Hungarian free agent striker Bajner, who was previously with Borussia Dortmund’s B team, came on as a sub in the second half of Wednesday’s 3-0 victory at Colchester, while French-Mauritian midfielder Kevin Bru is in midfield.

Elsewhere, Dean Gerken starts in goal with Freddie Veseli at right-back, Jonny Parr on the left and Luke Chambers and Tommy Smith at the heart of the defence.

In central midfield Bru partners Cole Skuse with Alex Henshall on the left and Cameron Stewart on the right. Up front, Bajner is joined by Paul Taylor.

Mick McCarthy has again brought a large squad with extensive substitutions likely at half-time or in the second half.

Town: Gerken, Veseli, Chambers, Smith, Parr, Stewart, Bru, Skuse, Henshall, Bajner, Taylor. Subs: Bialkowski, Hewitt, Berra, Mings, Anderson, Hyam, Wordsworth, Murphy, Nouble, Marriott.

Great chance for Taylor to shine today. He has an opportunity from the start. Will he take it? Time will tell.

Jas I hope he does but I have a feeling he will disinterested as soon as we lose possession and fade away.

For us to get promoted this season we'll need to have a strong squad of at least 22 players, with good options to come in for injuries, poor form or tactical changes. Our first XI is still about 3 players away from being capable of that. Also players like Veseli, Taylor & maybe Wordsworth are likely to be shipped out if an opportunity arises, we'll need further cover. Tabb is likely to stay I suppose. I don't have enough of a view of Bru & Bajner yet to know if they're good enough, but definitely a central midfielder with creativity & a goalscorer are needed. I hope Hewitt has progressed, but I think it's essential we have a good defensive right back instead of playing Chambers there. I expect both Anderson & Skuse will have consistently good performances this season.

Team/squad that could get us into promotion contenders:
Bialkowski
AN Other, Chambers, Berra, Parr
Anderson, Skuse, AN Other, Stewart
McGoldrick, AN Other.

Gerken, Hewitt, Smith, Mings, Hunt, Henshall, Hyam, Murphy, Marriott + 2 others.
