McCarthy Pleased With Trialists
Tuesday, 29th Jul 2014 22:40

Blues boss Mick McCarthy was pleased with on-trial pair Balint Bajner and Kevin Bru during Tuesday’s 2-1 victory at Southend and will continue to look at the duo.

Hungarian striker Bajner, who was previously with Borussia Dortmund’s B side, netted Towns’s opening goal and impressed McCarthy: “I thought he did well. He’s done well in every game, I feel.

“I’m really pleased with him. He’s only 23 and I think he’s got improvement in him. We’ll see, he’s done OK. We’ll continue to monitor him, definitely.

As for French-Mauritian midfielder Bru, he added: “Kevin’s done fine, I’ve been delighted with him. He’s a really good player, I think. The game the other day was only his second game in the last three or four months, so he was feeling a bit shattered.

“I wanted to get Teddy Bishop on, that’s why I took him off. Kevin’s done really well, I’m very pleased with him.”

From what I've heard, Bajner sounds like a very decent player. You don't get signed by Dortmund if you're a mug. Think he's definitely worth taking a punt on. We really do need some creativity in our midfield but I'd love Wordsworth to be given more game time as he could be that kind of player.

It sounds like we might be signing both of them then. It's unusual for triallists to hang around so long if we don't want them, so I suspect deals will be done. I am glad Bajner got on the score sheet.

I really like the look of Bajner, he could be special, I haven't seen Bru play, but gets good reports. Please sign Bajner.

I was one of the 249 at Gillingham. Bajner lost just about every arial contest and was hustled off the ball repeatedly by the Gills defenders when the ball was on the ground. He looked lightwieght and lacking generally in the skill levels needed at the top of the Championship. What has MM been watching? I really really hope we don' t sign him, he will not improve the squad, even as a member of the supporting cast.

Really hope Wordsworth is given more of a chance this season..I guess it's his niggling injuries that are the only problem (like with Garvan) but hope Mick plays him more, certainly in the home games.

I'm still not convinced by Skuse..think he should just be a squad player rather than automatic first choice.

I don't know very much about the striker, except his goal scoring record is not great. I certainly know that another defensive minded player is not required. We need attacking goal scoring midfield options. A jonny Williams type player.
