Bru Looks Set to Join Blues
Thursday, 31st Jul 2014 10:18

On-trial midfielder Kevin Bru looks set to join Balint Bajner in signing for the Blues having been included in this morning’s annual team photocall, which was held ahead of today’s Open Day at Portman Road.

While we understand he is yet to put pen to paper, the 25-year-old Mauritian international appears likely to sign a deal — probably along the lines of the one-year contract plus an option for a further season agreed by Bajner — before the weekend.

Paris-born Bru, a 25-year-old free agent, was a youth player with IFF Clairfontaine and Rennes, where he made his break into senior football when he made two Ligue 1 sub appearances in the 2006/07 season.

Set-piece expert Bru, who is 6ft tall, continued his career in the French second division, spending time on loan at Châteauroux and Clermont Foot before joining Dijon FCO on a permanent basis in January 2010. He moved on to US Boulogne a year later and then spent 2012/13 with FC Istres.

Last season, after a reported €250,000 move, he scored one goal in 26 appearances in Bulgaria with Levski Sofia, with whom he played twice in the Europa League, before leaving at the end of the campaign.

Having won U18 and U19 caps with France, Bru switched international allegiance in 2011 and has won two caps with Mauritius. His older brother Jonathan has also played international football for Mauritius and is also a free agent having been released by the Melbourne Victory in January.

Speaking after Tuesday’s friendly at Southend, manager Mick McCarthy said he had been impressed with Bru during his time with the Blues: “Kevin’s done fine, I’ve been delighted with him. He’s a really good player, I think.”

"Set-piece expert" who stood aside at Southend as Wordsworth slammed a 20yd freekick into the wall

Nothing like using one incident to support an argument hey SWGF.

I see Leon Osman take a free kick last season for Everton with Baines on the pitch. What a joke.

Set piece specialist sounds promising. We've got defenders who are capable of getting goals so a decent delivery to replace Cresswell on free kicks and corners would be good.

Wonder if Bru and Bajner will turn out to be any good in the championship. Worth a punt

is he generally an attacking midfielder or just when it comes to free kicks?

I see some very green recycled chance coming up. We may as well recycle all the Bruce chants the names are so simular. Welcome Kevin and I hope you enjoy our promotion season COYB!!!!!

If he needs straightening out at all we could Iron Bru. And if the northern supporters like him they might "fancy a Bru".

I'll get me ...

I hope they work out better than the last trialists we've signed. My favourite being Devon Yowsers

I'm really really looking forward to this season. It feels like we are taking a different approach this year. More attacking and more youthful. The older players like Tabb and Hunt are more likely just around for experienced heads and won't actually get much gave time. We have decent cover in all positions and most importantly almost everyone gets on. And we didn't sign the likes of Green and Richardson, that in itself shows ambition.

Welcome lads

Technically good footballers and 6 footers.
By the reports these guys will improve our technical qualities and add further strength&power to our squad. These guys are good age and should be expected to compete for a first team place very soon.

Delighted!

The days of buying the Martin reusers and hreidarsson's that no one had ever heard of becoming promotion winners could be a foot, I would rather gamble on some players like this than take has bins that are on massive wages then decide they are done for the season about half way through the season :) so excited for the Fulham game :)

Although pleased we are adding to the very small senior squad, I would question whether we need yet another non goals coring, defensive minded midfielder, unless either Skuse or hyam make way for him. I sincerely hope all three do not feature in the same team!

I wish him well though.

Well said Unknown100 - I totally agree. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If we get these guys in on "Frees" then I think that is great business on MM part in the current environment post FFP. COYB!!
