U15s Off to Winning Start at Galway Cup
Wednesday, 6th Aug 2014 19:27

Town’s U15s got off to a winning start at the Macron Galway Cup in Ireland this evening as goals from Callum Fullwood, Nathan Dennis and Andre Dozzell saw them to a 3-2 victory over US side DC United.

The young Blues, who are sponsored by Source One Consulting, face the Republic of Ireland U15s and then Israeli side Maccabi Haifa tomorrow and then Mexican club Chivas Guadalajara and Scunthorpe United on Friday. Saturday sees a final and play-offs for the other places in the group.

Former Blues Kieron Dyer and Jason Dozzell are amongst the academy staff to have travelled to the tournament.

The competition, which is played at Salthill Devon’s Drom training facility, is widely considered one of the best youth tournaments in Europe.

The Blues won the Elite U15 Cup that they are competing in this year in 2007 and finished runners-up in 2010, while Josh Carson was the Player of the Tournament in 2008 when Town went out at the semi-final stage.

Its great to see the Likes of Dozzell(My town hero in the late 80's/early 90')s and Kieran who's proved he cares about this club involved with the kids. I saw KD's debut and then him play a few days later in the FA cup away to forest... two of the most talented players through our youth system since the Robson days and two of the youngest to establish themselves gives the kids the perfect role models, not just because they made it but also because they made their share of mistakes...

the lad at the back next to the keeper looks mature for his age!! good to see the likes of Dyer back sharing his experience. hopefully Bramble won't show his face!!!

Hopefully in a few years time we'll see some of these young lads in the first team.

In terms of Dyer- without doubt the most gifted player I have seen in a Town shirt. If it wasn't for injury then - in my opinion - he would have won over 100 England caps and played for a big team like Man Utd. Its a real shame that many people regard him as a playboy who was always injured. A much much better play than both Lampard and Gerrard.
