Collison Training With Town
Sunday, 17th Aug 2014 09:42

Former West Ham midfielder Jack Collison is training with the Blues in the hope of winning a contract and Frank Nouble is available for loan or permanent move, according to this morning’s tabloids.

As per widespread reports this morning, we understand that Wales international Collison, 25, did join in training at Playford Road last week as he looks to find a new club following his Hammers exit.

Watford-born Collison played youth football with Peterborough and Cambridge before joining West Ham’s set-up.

He made his senior debut in January 2008 and went on to make 87 starts and 34 sub appearances, scoring 14 goals while at Upton Park. The 6ft tall midfielder was on loan at AFC Bournemouth and Wigan last season.

Since leaving West Ham - and writing an open letter to supporters - Collison has spent time on trial at QPR, playing in a number of their pre-season friendlies.

Collison qualifies for Wales via his grandfather and has won 17 full caps without scoring an international goal.

Meanwhile, Blues boss Mick McCarthy is reported to be ready to listen to loan or permanent offers for 22-year-old striker Nouble, following the acquisition of Derby’s Conor Sammon on a season-long loan on Friday.

Nouble, who cost £25,000 when he signed from Wolves in January 2013, was left out of the 18 at Reading yesterday with Sammon making his debut as a sub and Balint Bajner also amongst those appearing from the bench.

Excellent news on both accounts.

More midfield options are desperately needed and I always thought Collison was decent.

I think it's all already been said about Nouble. MM and TC gave him a season and a half with plenty of game time but he just hasn't improved and maybe they realise he just isn't up to it. Credit to them for trying but the fans can all see he just ins't the standard we require.

Sounds good to me. No disrespect big frank but it's just not worked for you.

Well said BlueMachines. Glad MM and TC did their best to coach nouble up to this point and equally delighted that Mick's a strong enough manager to accept it hasn't worked and move on.

Think MM has been fair with big Frank and given him time, probably more time than any of us would have given him and strangely more time than Taylor got.

Think the last straw was at Crawley, I think his performance against them said it all really...a good athlete but not good enough certainly for the Championship.

Has anybody noticed that the picture above is Jordan Mutch? Not Jack Collison!

Took far to long for MM and TC to come to the conclusion Frank was cr-p which a fair majority on here could see yonks ago, and we all can see your tactics are wrong the problem needs to be addressed in the next two games or didly squat Mick take a flying one.

Praise the Lord MM has seen the light! Frank Nouble is NOT a footballer of any quality! he has tried mine and many others patience for way too long, the tough bit now is finding someone to actually take him!
Any pub teams short of a big guy?

The signing of Sammon now makes a lot more sense. If Frank more regularly produced the sort of performance he managed at home to Palace at the end of last season then he would be ahead of Murphy to partner McGoldrick.

@AwayDays
So there's 'Mutch' confusion about who's photo it actually is. :-)

Great news about collinson and would add goals to midfield that we are lacking, suprised he didnt get a contract at QPR. Not too disappointed abput Nouble, nice guy and the effort has always been there, but he is just not up to it at this level, although we have sammon I would still replace nouble, as I thought sammon was the replacement for taylor??

Am very pleased with this news, MM and co seem to have finally seen sense, I'm sorry frank but it was never going to work, you gave it your all but at the end of the day you just don't have the technical ability for this level. Am very pleased about the possibility of signing Jack Collison, a versatile midfielder who is very good technically and I feel his best is still yet to come at only 25! If he is to sign then he would have to play in the middle of the park, but can just see MM playing him out wide, it would be a waste if he did because he has got quality about him.

Hmm, original photo was labelled as Collison on the Action Images database and still can't tell whether it is him or Mutch having looked at various pictures of both. Have changed it anyway.

Just been touch with a WHU season ticket holder of many years for thoughts on Collinson.

Everyone at west ham loves jack collision he is a fab lad the best he had a serious knee injury and he doesn't train fully but would love him to get a good club and have a good career he is one of the good guys who deserves it I hope u offer him a contract he won't let anyone down - we were totally pissed off yesterday it was cruel - Tottenham were poor we were the better team but that's typical whu!!

Collinson is fairly versatile in midfield so that would suit Mick as we know Jack won't be replacing Hyam/Skuse any time soon so he'd probably be out on either wing. Not sure if this is the creative midfielder we have all craved since Williams departed but will make a welcome edition to the midfield and if he takes Tabby's place that's fine with me.

That's if he joins - mustn't get to far ahead of ourselves.

Is this trial a result of Harry Redknapp's friendship with ME

Decent player on his day But another who is injury prone sadly.

Nouble's been a waste of time like Taylor..would've rather seen Marriott given all that game time instead last season.

Nouble always runs his socks off but just doesn't seem to have the quality at this level. Collison would be a great addition, he has had his injuries but on his day he is a really top player at this level. We need a few more additions to the squad. Last season we ran out of steam a bit towards the end.

We need additional midfield options, particularly ones who can score goals and attack. Yesterday, we essentially started with four defensive midfield options. Not good enough. There are injury concerns surrounding Collison though.

As for Nouble, well he has had his chance ... Almost 60 appearances. He tries his best, but he is sadly not good enough so it's time to move on. If he goes, then for me we still need a replacement, as Sammon was signed as a replacement for Taylor.

The way MM has been doing things lately the fact this is in the press leads me to believe this deal could be further along towards completion than we being lead to believe. Will be a good addition to the side.
