Marriott Joins Carlisle on Loan
Monday, 18th Aug 2014 09:06

Striker Jack Marriott has joined League Two Carlisle United on a month’s loan. The 19-year-old frontman spent much of last season on loan in the Conference with Woking.

Boss Mick McCarthy said: “Jack Marriott has gone out on loan to Carlisle for a month. He needs to play some football, like the others, and we’ve got the other guys in.

“Plus when we have the two-week break they’ll have games and he can still be playing in that. Let’s hope he gets some games.”

Cheltenham Town boss Mark Yates has revealed that he also hoped to sign Marriott on loan: “The one we moved onto yesterday we think is joining Carlisle, a centre forward from Ipswich, a young lad, so I think we’ve missed out there.”

Coincidentally, Marriott may make his Carlisle debut at Cheltenham on Tuesday with the sides set to meet at Whaddon Road.

The experience will do him good in the long term. Lets hope that he gets the games he needs and he puts in a good performance.

Same old same old. When will the yioungsters get a chance. We wont go up this season so lets play the youth instead of paying rivals cast offs as usual . Come on MM, break from your norm...

That is his career at Town down the pan. Marriott..home grown..shown he can score..discarded for Sammon...you are pulling my leg. Youth has no chance under MM I'm afraid..

How are any if us supposed to judge if Marriott is ready or not, the only chance he gets is playing up front with Nouble!
Think he should have been given a chance here rather than sent out on loan....again!

@oldegold Yeah, classic McCarthy never giving young players a chance. Always favouring washed up journeymen like Luke Hyam and Tyrone Mings…oh wait.

Time to get your agent working Jack. At this stage of your career you need a permanent club to allow you to develop not to be shuffled around from club to club.

It is only a matter of time to McCarthy saying "he is not my kind of player"

Dont understand some people here. Marriott would be an unused sub if there's no injuries up top, so sending him on loan is a good decision. To the doom and gloomers, its only a moths loan, it does not mean his career here is over, far from it. However, if I'm honest, Marriott shouldn't be starting any of our games right now, we have more experienced strikers, and starting him against teams like Fulham (many people were wanting him to start) or Cardiff etc can ruin his confidence and all the progression he's made as these are big teams with very good players. Hopefully he plays well on loan though, he still has the potential to become a massive player for us in the future.

Despite Sammon coming in we've shipped out Taylor and now Marriott and Nouble are going (albeit only temporarily for Jack) so I reckon some young Premiership loans are on their way, probably a forward and a midfielder. Here's hoping as the squad is getting seriously small.

I have to say that Tyrone needs to go out too. He needs to learn the game, exposure at this level too soon could make shot of his confidence.

WoW just Wow I cant see how any of you see this as a bad move.
The loan is for 1 month, he goes out gets some games gets match fit (fingers crossed scores a few goals) and comes back hopefully in good form, we then have Mcgoldrick, Murphy, Marriott all in good form, plus if Salmon can show us what he can do then great.

Mates the physio at Carlisle, just messaged him saying Marriott's a good kid, gets in decent positions and knows where the goal is, hope Kavanagh gives him games and service

You could see this coming. Glad he is going to a league side. I think this is the next logical step for young Jack. Hoping he will get more opportunities that he did at Gillingham. I am also hoping that this may help pave the way for signing someone like Nick Powell on loan. I think the fans could really do with a lift prior to the Derby at the weekend. COYB!

Clever loan, have him play football league football and will be playing games through the international break whilst we wont....

It's a month which to me indicates he has every chance at town... Not a season long or even till Christmas and at a time when we won't be playing - no brainer.. He is nearly there but not quite and match experience will do him the world of good.

Brilliant move for Marriott and us, he gets games under his belt-we get a young goal scorer nearer to starting in the first eleven.........can't be any simpler than that guys!
That's called 'man management' expertly carried out by MM & TC.

And so it goes on. When I looked at my paper this morning it confirmed my view that English football is on its way to hell in a handcart; Man Utd are prepared to spend an overall total of £100m on one player. This, at the same time as Championship clubs are being prevented from excessive spending by FFP rules. I truly despair at the way that true competition in the traditional structure of the upper tiers in English football has been sacrificed to accommodate the foreign spivs and chancers who have no interest in football other than seeing an opportunity to make a fast buck. The Championship is a good open league but is also doomed when young players do not get their opportunities because of the pressures to compete. How many of us are really happy to send young Marriott out on loan while at the same time bringing in Connor Salmon on loan? No disrespect to CS who may during his loan period prove to be a good signing but are we really going to be better off long term when JM comes back to us and CS returns to Derby?

Sadly none of the academy players are going to given a chance in this environment and the only way we can afford to keep them on the vaguest chance that they might break through to first team level is to send them on loan to lower league clubs (with a lower class of football) while the top squad will continue to be supplemented by loan journeymen players who are deemed to be surplus to requirements by their own clubs. This is a grim message to send to prospective academy scholars and their parents who properly expect a bit more from a club like ours.
