McGoldrick £8m Leicester Target
Saturday, 30th Aug 2014 08:18

Town and Premier League new boys Leicester City are in talks regarding an £8 million deal for striker David McGoldrick, according to various reports this morning.

Some sources are reporting that the Blues have already turned down a £6.5 million offer for the 26-year-old and that the frontman will miss today's game with a dead leg.

McGoldrick joined Town initially on loan from Nottingham Forest in January 2013, scoring four goals in 13 games and one sub appearance.

Having been released by Forest he put pen to paper on a permanent deal the following summer.

Last season he scored 16 goals before suffering a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee in February and missed the rest of the campaign.

He returned to action in pre-season and scored in the opening day victory over Fulham at Portman Road.

When McGoldrick signed his permanent deal with Town it was reported that he had agreed a two-year contract, however, manager Mick McCarthy said in April that the striker’s deal stretches beyond next summer, suggesting that the Blues have an option for a further season, although he wouldn’t go into details.

“He’s got more than a year to run," he said. “But his contract details are personal and for me to know and not you.”

While the Blues would be loath to lose their star striker, it would be difficult to turn down an offer of the size reported or to deny McGoldrick the chance to play in the Premier League. The transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday evening.

8 million!! MM and ME have got a hard choice to make now! You don't want to lose your best player, but every player has there price.

Is Mcgoldrick worth 8 million or more? That is the question?

To be expected..he is our most gifted player and has something that all others in team lack...class. Would love to keep him but you cannot deny him the opportunity to play at the top level and secure his financial future. If he goes be interesting to see where and if we spend the money......johnny Williams ?

Got to say I'm pretty surprised by this. That is a considerable amount of money for a player who has only had 1 really decent season at this level and is coming back from a major injury.

He would be very difficult to replace, but £8m *IF* that was all to be reinvested in the playing squad, could make a significant difference to the quality of our side. That kind of money spent wisely could add 4 quality players to our starting 11. Hell, we might even be able to get Jonny Williams with that sort of cash.

If this happens we should be offered a season ticket refund. I won't be back. Being lied to. Wish Evans would sell up and get out and take MM with him. Totally fed up with constant bad news and watching crap football.

Although I would hate to see mcgoldrick go, 8 million is a lot of money for him. If the deal did go ahead, the mcgoldrick and cresswell money would add up to well over 10 million - which we could then get a decent striker and midfielder with. I knew other clubs would be interested in mcgoldrick, but I never thought it would be for around 8 million!

I can't wait to read the positive spin the happy clappy brigade want to put on this. Front 2 of Murphy and Sammon, god help us.

Take the money... he could be crocked after two games in the prem... but for god sake don't p*ss the money away, we have about 3 days to find quality to add to the squad!!

I don't normally post on paper talk threads because they are invariably either nonsense or immaterial. This story however is so significant that it will likely change our exit route from this division

It looks like things are going from bad to worse.Where is the money from the Cressy sale.! If we were to sell DMc,would we get any money,I doubt it.This club seems to have little ambition other than to plod on a just keep safe season by season.Supporters are loosing interest in the club and the Hoof football is just terrible to watch.Ok ME did at one stage the club and had his fingers burnt by a couple of duff managers, but I feel he has lost interest in the club and is now just trying to claw as much money back into hie pocket as possible.Best sell up and give the club a fighting chance.Do WE really Trust in MM. I really wonder.!COYB.3 points today will do the club a world of good.

Just. when you think it can't get any worse!

Makes sense of MM's comments yesterday about any further sales being down to the owner. Sounds like the cosy relationship between him and Evans may be getting strained!

Presumably the fee will follow the Cresswell money to .....................????

It did seem like Mick was paving the way for the departure of a very important (most important) player over the last few days. He was also looking to tell the fans that it was not his decision to do so.
£8m would be a hell of a price & represent a fantastic bit of business on one level; the problem comes when you ask "What happens next?".
McGoldrick is our only player of true creative quality, who will be extremely hard to replace, even if we thought that a significant amount of the fee would be made available. But given the late stage of the window & the fact that we were already crying out for additional creative talent, it would appear next to impossible to bring in the number & type of players we need to keep us at mid-table level.
I'd completely understand if Didz wants to go & I'd wish him well in the Premiership, but it's a big worry.
Maybe Wood in as part of the deal?

You're right Bossman, no-one should be allowed to be positive about anything, we should all be as miserable as you. 8 million is a lot of money for a striker with a dodgy knee. I wince every time I see him turn sharply. Would love him to stay and play a full season but what sort of gamble is it with two knee injuries on the same leg in rapid succession last year? If we say "No" and he does his cruciate ligaments next month, how clever would that look?
Bearing in mind of course that nothing official has been said and it is paper talk.

Just wait until Palace come and buy Mings and Smith, then you will really have something to talk about!!!!

runaround added 08:46 - Aug 30
Really wouldn't want to see him but IF & with Evans it's a big IF the fee was all used to buy 3 or 4 players today then it might be a gamble worth taking. Then again as this is ITFC I doubt it will work quite that way

Hi Neil, it's Mick. I'll give you Tommy Smith plus £2m for Jonny Williams. Deal?

Serious relegation candidates if McGoldrick goes!

From the point of view of ME this would be a great deal and profit on a player who joined us for free.

However, we really would be in trouble without this player! None of our other options looks like getting more than about 10 a season (lucky if we get 5 from Sammon) and who else could we sign? All this rubbish about Williams-he's been in and around the palace team playing premiser league games, so I think this is just another Dos Santos pipe dream.

The real question has to be: if we do sell, who else can we get in? If it looks like a decent young loan player is available I fear we'll take it.

Having said that, it is just paper talk! Do Leicester need him having splashed on that Brighton striker in the summer..?

Please sell, for that sort of stupid money. He is not worth it. After the bad injury he had not sure if he will be the same player we had last year

Harlowtractorboy added 08:52 - Aug 30
What the fcuk. He is our best player by miles. We are not gonna see none of that money invested in the team. The news is getting better day by day. Will the last person at the training ground can you turn the light off

Scribble added 08:55 - Aug 30
Can't believe so many comments saying take the money we could buy decent players with that, do you really think that money would be spent? Deluded if you do!
