Collison, Ambrose, Hunt, Bialkowski and Mings Start For U21s
Monday, 1st Sep 2014 18:51

Free agents Jack Collison and Darren Ambrose are joined by Bartosz Bialkowski, Stephen Hunt and Tyrone Mings - a Crystal Palace target earlier today - in the Blues’ U21 side facing Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road this evening (KO 7pm).

Manager Mick McCarthy wants to run the rule over Collison and Ambrose, while Hunt is continuing his comeback after his calf injury. The Blues are understood to have turned down an Eagles offer for Mings.

New Zealand U20 international midfielder Monty Patterson makes his first appearance for Town’s U21s.

U21s: Bialkowski, Robinson, Mings, Collison, Sowunmi, Clarke, Hunt, Ambrose, McQueen, Patterson, Henshall. Subs: Marsden, Kenlock, Willbye, Galvin, McLoughlin.

Sheffield Wednesday: Wildsmith, Young, Floro, Beatson, De Havilland, Sanders, Stobbs, Meadows, Dieseruvwe, Croasdale, Betra. Subs: Tracy, McDonagh, Foster, Law, O'Grady.

I bet rings is a happy bunny tonight, from a big money move to palace to a game for the under 21s

At least it will put a smile on his miserable mug

Good. If Collison can prove his fitness he could be a decent signing.

At the game and mings clearly thinks he's a cut above this level, far too casual and looks like he's got the hump. Effort and body language all wrong in front of McCarthy.

If the Palace bid have any substance...
I doubt Mings will be shelling out for any Town fan who needs a ticket or a replica shirt refund... Probably been sucking on a few Lemons if his face is looking sour tonight.

Looks like quiet a decent team we've got out. We should get a good result tonight and hopefully get some players fitter

Half time 0-0. Ambrose playing in centre midfield alongside Collison. Ambrose Towns best player by a mile for me. Playing a midfield general role, hardly put a pass astray, spraying ball about both short and long, making space and some lovely intelligent football from him. Always wanting the ball and making himself available. A real delight to watch. Collison ok but looks a bit rusty. Henshall also looks class in spells. From tonights performance I do honestly believe Darren Ambrose can do a job for us and add a touch of well needed class to our midfiield and squad.

For god sake sign Ambrose, he will get the goals flowing again. Still a great age we could easily get four years out of him.

ramseyn!

I recon if Mings has the hump for any reason it's because he got dropped for the last game for no real reason!

30 a great age for an injury prone midfielder? I don't think so, played relatively little over the last couple of years due to injury and then played for some Greek club nobodies ever heard of! - another freebie to add to Mick's hoards?

Great deadline day, most other clubs fasns on tenterhooks on who is coming in at the last minute and what's the main headline at my club....a bloody u21 game!!

What's happening to this club, paint drying has more appeal!!

Unfortunately Town look very lightweight up front, the odd Henshall run with support from Hunt and Ambrose is about all we have had to offer in the second half. Apart from a good Hunty strike he has looked a bit like a ferret who has lost his smell. Collison coming into the game a bit more but not been at all impressive for me but that may be just down to match fitness. Ambrose tiring a bit in the second half but still for me has been Towns best player. As we speak Henshall just had two more good chances and forcved a corner. Town picking up a bit now.

Yep @Talbs - it's all been hype and speculation, Smith, McG, today Mings and possibility of Tunnicliffe coming back and even a defensive fella from Crewe has been mentioned but absolutely diddly squat happening. Other than the McG speculation makes you wonder if it's just idle gossip in the locker room starting it!

Still feel we could do with at least some loans in for the rest of the season (although it's not the way forwards).
