Mings Flattered By Palace Interest
Wednesday, 3rd Sep 2014 15:50

Left-back Tyrone Mings has admitted that he was flattered by Premier League Crystal Palace’s deadline day interest in him, but says he remains focused on helping Town join them in the top flight.

The Blues rejected an Eagles bid understood to have been £2.5 million, with the half-season loan of Jonny Williams thrown in as Neil Warnock's side looked to land the 21-year-old former Chippenham Town full-back.

“When I found out that Crystal Palace were interested, I spoke to the manager,” Mings told the club site.

“He told me straight that he didn’t want me to be sold, that I wouldn’t be going anywhere. He said that he wanted me settled here and part of his squad going forward and that was obviously nice to hear.

“All the Crystal Palace interest was flattering,” he admitted. “I’d be lying if I said otherwise — with a Premier League club willing to pay money for me at this stage of my career but it’s in the past now.

“I’ve obviously only been in the game a short while and things have gone well for me at Ipswich.

“I’m certainly very happy and I’m looking forward to the future here. I want to help the club reach the Premier League. That is the goal for me and everyone else here.”

Meanwhile, we understand that former Blue Mark Venus was close to being named Colchester United’s new manager before another ex-Town centre-half Tony Humes was appointed on Monday following Joe Dunne’s departure.

Venus, whose last job was assisting Tony Mowbray at Middlesbrough, is still based on the Suffolk/Essex border.

If we rejected that reported bid it would be, in the words of Mick, bonkers.

Now knuckle down & keep your place in the team, don't want this to make him big headed. He has very minimal experience at Championship level and needs to press on now with Ipswich!

How we could do with a Mark Venus corner these days with the height with have in the team. Best corner taker in the clubs history, the pace he got on the ball was superb.

Commitment & continuity is what we need. Very pleased that this has turned out the way it has and that the team's growth will continue.

The defense is key to MMs Ipswich. MM wants his team settled and playing consistantly, it is the bedrock of how we play. Mings has long been identified as the long term LB for this team.

Keeping the current defense together is crucial to MM.
Berra, Chambo, Smith, Mings and Hewitt will hopefully be the corner stones for many years to come!

I wasn't impressed with Tyrone's attitude towards the potential Palace move on Monday, therefore I am very pleased to read his comments.

Listen to Mick, keep improving and the Premier League will be a possibility, hopefully with ITFC.

Don't be fooled by these words, he HAD to say this after the pictures and comments he made on social media on Monday. I'm not impressed by him on the pitch or off it.

I am with Devereuxxx if Palace bid that and Williams on loan I would have bitten their hands off , Parr is a better player for me anyway and should be starting .

Well done Tyrone, next time stay away from the social media. It is definitely a 'your generation' thing, the need to publicly flout frustration.

You have to remember some of the older generations cannot understand the need to outpour on the internet, and find it rather edifying. Keeping ones dignity is especially important if you are in the public eye like yourself.

It's as if Mick would have been far more disappointed if Mings would have gone instead of mcgoldrick. Strange in my opinion. If that figure is correct with Williams loan deal we have certainly missed a trick there.

Funny how we all see things differently. I believe that Mings is of potentially premiership standard although he is very raw at the moment.

Part of learning at this stage is not only the technical and physical development but also the consistency which he will no doubt improve over the coming months.

Be fair to the lad and if another company was interested in you moving to their better, higher quality offices, for more money and recognition you would be mad not to think about it. Even more so when you are still a teenager.

Just goes to show what a good scouting system we have at town we got cressy Mings mcgoldrick and the prem clubs can't get enough of them! Keep producing them town COYB!

Can the club just stop this nonsense that they think we can get in the top 6 with the squad we have! We have a mid table championship side and we simply don't have enough quality to get there. We won't get there unless we improve the squad, oh wait too late for that. And how we turned down 2.5 million for Mings is beyond me. Parr looks to be starting LB now, and I don't think Mings will ever play in the premier league, not technically good enough and his positioning is woeful. The sooner he switches to centre half the better a career he will have.

He has a lot of potential and I'm really glad he's stayed.

Now that the tough month of August is out of the way, let's start picking up the points and go for it!
