Nouble Nets Winner on Coventry Debut
Friday, 5th Sep 2014 22:12

Striker Frank Nouble scored the winning goal as loan club Coventry City beat Gillingham 1-0 on their return to the Ricoh Arena.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Sky Blues until January late on deadline day, netted in the 10th minute of his debut for the League One club.

Nouble, who was replaced on 59, told the Sky Blues official site that he talked with Town team-mate David McGoldrick, who was on loan at the Ricoh Arena prior to moving to Portman Road.

"I spoke to David before I came here and he spoke very highly of the club and said it did wonders for his career," he said.

"If I can do what he did it will obviously help my career, but the most important thing for me is helping the team do well.

"Coventry City is a massive club to me and I think we can be pushing for the play-offs and although my loan is only until January at the minute, if we can get to that point and we're real play-off contenders I'll want to stay here, carry on doing well and see it through."

He said his debut couldn't have gone any better: "To be honest I thought about it all day yesterday, thinking of scoring here, after we were taken on a tour of the stadium yesterday.

"You can see Coventry is a massive club and you could see that everybody wanted to show their support and I think the players responded well.

"Ryan Haynes played ever so well. I thought I was young at 22 but he's only 19 and he's only going to get better the more he plays.

"I didn't think he saw me for the goal to be honest but it was a great goal from good football and I was delighted to be able to put it in the bottom corner.

"I don't know what more I could want really from today, working hard, playing well and scoring live on the telly. That's all I want.

"Now we just need to keep the momentum going. The players all buy into the manager's system of working hard and pressing the ball and I really think teams will find that hard to deal with."

Elsewhere, right-back Elliott Hewitt was an unused sub as the Wales U21s drew 2-2 in Finland in their penultimate Euro 2015 qualifier.

Geraint Williams’s side face Lithuania in their final match in Alytus on Tuesday.

Typical... watch him become league 1 top scorer.

Really delighted for big Frank! Hopefully he rips the division up and gets the rewards his hard work deserves.

He can still become a decent player for us.. This will boost his confidence and he'll hopefully go on a run. I still have SOME faith in him :)

watched game Frank took chance clinically and played well in his proper position down the middle, not on the wing where Mick plays him.

Sorry but i think hes found his level just like JET did

Central striking position may well be his best position. But at Ipswich he is not better than McGoldrick or Murphy, currently.

To young Frank. One word. CL4CK!

You just knew it. Looked a calm, assured finish too. So why are our loan players looking good at their adopted clubs. Lets hope they come back full of confedence and firing on all cylinders, but I doubt they will ever get another look in.

Absolutely made up for Frank. I hope that this loan spell kick-starts his career and he becomes a folk hero with the Sky Blues this season.

I've knocked Frank in the past but this loan has no downside, if he plays well and scores loads he'll either come back with oodles of match experience which he wasn't getting here or he'll get a move.... it;s never clicked for him anywhere but I hope it does.

For the next few months I hope he can be a hero for Cov.... and maybe he can come back and be a viable option for town?

Most ex players or players out on loan seem to do well when they leave us. Can't be a coincidence. Pleased for him though.

Just proves that this forum is a popularity contest. If it's Paul Taylor or Jason Scotland or Jack Marriott then MM is an idiot for not putting them straight in the team but if it's Frank Nouble then he's found his level!! Well done Big Frank, good on you, hope you get 50 more. :)

You don't suddenly become a prolific goalscorer after one game on loan. He will never be able to make his mark in the championship, he has had more games here to prove that than he really deserved

Big Frank has found his level, yes a team that plays football on grass no wonder he has scored like everyone else that has gone.I dont rate no goals Nouble and we wont see him again at our club because Mick wont except a mistake. Also it shows just how poor our team is as we dont supply or support our hard working strikers they look really poor running around looking for bits and pieces.

The reason players do seemingly well ehen out on loan is cos they are invariably playing for a lower league team....their true level? Or in a team that has inferior players around them ie big fish in a small pool syndrome.

Nice one mate.

Toronto Tractor...you make interesting point but keep in mind that most of our loanees are playing in a lower division. My take on Big Frank is that the power and effort is there...if he learns how to make sure that the ball ends up in the back of the net then this move could well be a win/win situation.

Pleased for Frank but I have to say that I've seen him play enough to know that he's never going to be good enough for us. So I hope he scores loads of goals for Cov and he creates a career for himself there.

Good for him, have always rated what Nouble does off the ball. Pleased to see him on the scoresheet.

Hope Frank can progress playing regularly at Coventry. On a side note - that is one ugly football kit!

It wasn't his level when we played Crawley in fact he looked little better than a Thurlow Nunn League football player. Hope he does make a success of it at Coventry but I won't hold my breath. Could it be JET mark two 2.

I said when he scored twice against col u in pre season that league 1 is prob his level. Good luck to the guy, the effort and work rate as certainly always been there, just sadly not the application and talent
