Ambrose Has Unfinished Business
Thursday, 11th Sep 2014 12:50

Darren Ambrose says he has unfinished business at Town having joined the Blues for a third spell earlier today. The midfielder has penned a short-term deal until January.

The 30-year-old came through the academy and had just established himself in the first team when he was sold to Newcastle for £1 million with the club desperately needing to raise cash during 2003’s administration.

The Harlow-born midfielder returned to the Blues for two months on loan from Charlton during 2008/09 but failed to win an extended stay.

Having left Birmingham in June he came back to Playford Road towards the end of August and featured in a couple of U21 matches.

“I’d been on to my agent to try and get me a chance to train with Ipswich and the gaffer invited me down here for a few weeks,” Ambrose explained to the club site.

“I have felt good here and the manager pulled me on Tuesday and said the club would be offering me something.

“I couldn’t be happier, to be honest. It’s a great club and I feel like I have unfinished business here.

“I have said before that I left too young and then when I came back here on loan things didn’t really go as well as I had hoped for.

“Now I’m back for a third time and I’m really looking forward to it. I want to succeed here. That’s the target and I’m confident I can achieve that.”

Welcome back I always thought it was a mistake letting you go. Collision and Williams next and the squad is well up to a playoff place.

Welcome back, Darren! I will never forget that disgusting £1m fee we got for him. I know any club would have taken advantage of us like that, but Newcastle have always been low in my estimation because of it.

I really hope I am wrong and Darren is able to do a job for us but I fear if he was good enough and fit enough Birmingham wouldn't have let him go.
If Palace are being straight when they say no offers have been made for Jonny Williams ITFC need to concentrating their efforts in south London and getting him back here.

Obi Wan Kenobi made a great comeback in Star Wars episode 4, he got the shields down on the death star and helped save the princess. You're probably wandering what this has to do with football, not much really but its got you thinking about Star Wars. May the force be with you.

AbujaBlue, I think the Newcastle manager who managed to get Ambrose on the cheap was a certain Bobby Robson

We asked for Williams and get Ambrose.
Thats progress for you.

50yearsablue, Sir Bobby was the manager of Newcastle at the time, but he had nothing to do with negotiations:

"I said to my chairman 'There's a young player we should have here' and he went off to do the best deal possible for Newcastle United.

"That's how any chairman would handle it, isn't it? I didn't get involved in negotiations myself — that's the chairman's job."

AbujaBlue - i think you have some rose tinted glasses on there. Remember Sir Bob had complete control over the clubs he managed, so to think that he did not know the fee is just blinked. I am not blaming Sir Bob as business is business and of course he said what he said because of obvious reason, but to not think that he wasnt involved is jsut niave.

Perhaps this is a silly comment, but I do wonder if Darren's first-team appearances in the next few months will count as appearances by an academy product for the next academy audit. If so, his short-term deal may give us the fraction of a percent we need to get over the top.

In Fairness to Newcastle, they paid well over the odds for Bramble and gave us a good deal for Dyer all those years ago. He initially did very well at Newcastle but the club went in to a bit of mess for a few years with lots of managers and a high turnover of players. Injuries diddnt help his cause either.

Welcome back Darren, lets hope you can stay fit and make a good contribution to the team.

Mutters - In all honesty I was just stating what the story said, with no rose-tinted or naive 'baggage'. But I think you should be similarly cautious assuming that Sir Bobby had control over all of his transfer dealings.

Graham Souness apparently said that Freddy Shepherd (Newcastle chairman during Sir Bobby years) had total control over transfers during his tenure there, and don't forget he was forced out from Newcastle by by Shepherd only a year after the Ambrose deal. So looking at it rationally it would seem there is truth to what Robson was saying in that TWTD article, but obviously only Shepherd and Sheepshanks/Royle would know for sure.

I can't see how he's currently a better player to improve our squad than Wordsworth or Taylor would. I loved him here before and even had him on my shirt as a 12 year old boy but he's just not the same player he was back then. Hopefully I'm wrong and he can regain that kind of form. Welcome back Darren.

When was the last time a player signed for ITFC and spoke with such genuine warmth and affection for the Club - the guy means it.

After wiping a tear away, the reality is he will have to work his socks off to get in to MMs side but once there, there is no one in the Club with his footballing ability and brain, not even close ex for Dids.

A gamble for the Club, but one where the down side is minimal and the upside is potentially massive.

Welcome back Darren, put your words into action and we will all be happy for a few years to come.

As I seem it recall it was the administrators that 'accepted' the deal on our behalf, our hands were well and truly tied. But, welcome back Darren, only a few seasons back he was smashing them in from all angles at palace, he may have lost his way a bit but I think this is his club at heart, don't under estimate what that can do for a player!

Like bluemikey I would liketo see him given a go in the time he will be here;but like Bishop,Clarke and Henshall not forgetting Marriott, will be very surprised but delighted if they manage to oust favourites Tabb and Skuse from midfield Murphy up front or Chambo at right back.We are getting some talented footballers on our books now but will our know it all Manager play any of them much.I hope so but fear he will not even though team is 19th in Championship

Ambrose Hymn thats worth a go im not going to moan as I wanted to see the Skuse Hymn partnership dissolved as it is our achilles heal.Any player that can pass a ball forward has to be a positive for us also its good that we have a guy that knows the championship and wont need months to adapt. Please Mick play Darren and the few lads we saw at Derby it was a breath of fresh air...
