Two Doubts for Town
Two Doubts for Town

George Burley's main worries ahead of tomorrow's clash with Everton are Jermaine Wright, whose troublesome groin again played up in the second half of Wednesday's win against Fulham, and Alun Armstrong who twisted his ankle in the same game.

If Wright misses out Jim Magilton could return after managing most of the reserve match with Nottingham Forest yesterday afternoon with no return of his hamstring reported.

Armstrong returned to the starting line-up against Fulham and if he fails to make it then Marcus Stewart, who signed for Town two years ago today, is likely to regain his place in the side. Darren Bent is called on to make up the number of strikers in the squad and may get a place on the bench, although Pablo Couñago, still yet to score for Town in either a competitive first team or reserve game, is also included.

Thomas Gaardsøe put in another impressive reserve performance from a central midfield starting position yesterday and seemed to feel no ill effects to his ankle, injured by a wild John Robinson tackle on New Year's Day. Ulrich Le Pen also had no recurrence of his recent injury.

John McGreal's suspension for reaching five yellow cards does not yet come into effect despite reports to the contrary elsewhere.

Everton may have Gazza returning in midfield after missing out in the Villa game on Wednesday. George Burley has prepared special plans in case in the in-form Geordie rascal is in the side: "Gazza has been doing very well but I'm not sure if he will be fit. He didn't play against Aston Villa on Wednesday. You can make special plans to deal with players but we don't know if they will be playing. We have had Everton watched in the past four games and we will see who is available for ourselves, decide on the team and adjust it accordingly. We plan ahead but every game is different. What we do know is we have to compete as we did against Fulham. The boys were totally committed and that is how we got the three points."

David Weir will return to the Everton side after missing the Villa game due to his wife giving birth. Nicholas Alexandersson will be missing for two months with a knee ligament problem while Hibbert, Blomqvist, Pembridge, Pistone, Radzinski and Gravesen are also missing for the home side.
