Smith, Hyam and Bru Drop Out
Saturday, 13th Sep 2014 14:17

David McGoldrick, Tyrone Mings and Cole Skuse return to the side and Luke Hyam, Tommy Smith and Kevin Bru all drop to the bench as Mick McCarthy makes three changes to the team which drew 1-1 at Derby a fortnight ago.

Skipper Luke Chambers moves to centre-half alongside Christophe Berra with Jonny Parr at right-back and Mings on the left.

In midfield, Teddy Bishop keeps his place in the centre of midfield with Skuse returning having been unwell for the game against the Rams. Paul Anderson will be on the right and Jay Tabb on the left.

McGoldrick, who missed out at Derby with a dead leg, returns either in a front two with Daryl Murphy or in the role between the lone striker and the midfield. There is no place in the 18 for returning midfielder Darren Ambrose, who signed a short-term deal on Thursday.

Former Blues skipper Carlos Edwards starts at right-back for Millwall but Lee Martin misses out with a knee ligament injury. Former Blue Ed Upson and one-time Town loanee Ricardo Fuller are on the bench.

Town: Gerken, Parr, Mings, Chambers (c), Berra, Skuse, Bishop, Tabb, Anderson, McGoldrick, Murphy. Subs: Bialkowski, Smith, Bajner, Hyam, Bru, Henshall, Sammon.

Millwall: Forde, Edwards, Dunne, Beevers, Malone, Powell, Williams, Woolford, McDonald, Easter, Ranegie. Subs: King, Briggs, Webster, Upson, Onyedinma, Gueye, Fuller.

I like it.

Young Bishop gets another run, Didsy is back and Parr is good enough to be in the team anyway.

COYB!

Well Well blow me down if Skuse isn't straight back in that's a surprise(not) otherwise only complaint is Brother Tabby but we have options on the bench to replace him

Like this line up, good blends of experience and youth, Skuse - Bishop in the middle and Tabb - Mings on the left. Looking at who's not playing and we have a fair bit of depth too. Our 2nd XI today could be:

Salmon - Bayner
Henshall/Hunt - Bru - Hyam - Ambrose/Stewart
****** - Smith - ****** - Hewitt
Bialkowski

Looking at that we are only looking thin in defence!

Monkey.blue.
No Parr is right footed and looked completely out of place at left back against Derby, much improved when he switched at hall time. Other than Henshall for Tabb I am happy with this, much better balance.

Parr is a left footed left back.

Well I must have watched a different person at Derby then as he used his right foot all game long...

OMG Mick you solve one problem putting Chambers at centre back and create another with Parr at right back mind boggling he is a good left back and will be slaughtered by everyone if he has a bad game.Great to see young Bishop start but you ruin it by playing safe at home with Skuse and Tabb.Hyam and Henstall should have started but thats a moaners opion i guess.

He is a right footed player who happens to have played a lot of career at left back

Well this is good and bad, we all though Skuse would come back, but we all thought it would be at Bishops expense, would rather Henshall in over tab and skuse has been dire so far this season but other than that I like it. A little dissaponted not to see Ambrose on the bench as I'm relly looking forward to seeing him in a tiown shirt again

While its unfair that Hyam gets dropped, it might be good for Bishop to be beside a more experienced player. Absolutely Delighted that Bishop starts, however. Dropping Smith though is really unlucky for him, we are in a great situation where we have possibly the 3 top cb's in this league. Difficult to drop any of them, Tommy's our academy player, Chambers' our skipper and Berra is the best cb in the league. Got a good feeling about today for us, COYB!

He also played most of pre season at right back and did very well!!

I know deep down that it's wrong to criticise your own players, but Tabb offers nothing. He's not quick enough, he's not big enough, and he's not creative enough to make a difference to our team. Gutted to not see Ambrose at least in the squad. As long as Tabb is in this team I feel well continue to lack the cutting edge that would get us into the top 6.

Can't help Smith has been dropped to adopt to proper full backs, shouldn't it have been Chambers as he's been in the right back spot?...oh no he's the Captain so you can't do that!.
Disappointed that Skuse is straight back in but I feel either Bru or Bishop deserved another start so commend Mick on that. Tabb/Skuse still living up to the bill of Mick's favs!!

Well, all managers like to seem 'different' by making perverse choices but two mistakes here:- 1.Chambers should be the one to make way as Smith better in air and more of a goal threat ( and well, just a better player)
2. Hyam offers more than Skuse - just when Hyam is learning how to get forward he drops him for Skyse who never goes anywhere - bad move.
3. Tabb instead of Bru or Henshall? Wrong call again.

It's always mind-numbing 'safety first' with MM isn't it? As long as we don't lose he'll be ready with post-match platitudes. No - we need creativity and attacking mentality.

sKuse straight back in! yawn........hyam and Bishop obviously did too well at Derby!! strange selection. Skuse most over-rated player in a town shirt!

Agree totally with Warkon. What is Mick thinking dropping Hyam and Smith?! Glad bishop is playing again but Skuse shouldn't be and smith being dropped is inexcusable no matter what (unless he's picked up a knock) still COYB

Amazing, people even spend time moaning on here when the match has started. We have two games in four days, it is a long season, players will need to be rotated and kept fresh. It's a pity we can't do the same on here with the moaners.
