Collison at Birmingham But "Mulling Over Town Deal"
Monday, 15th Sep 2014 11:26

Ex-West Ham man Jack Collison is training with Birmingham City but is “mulling over” the offer of a contract from the Blues, according to Midlanders’ boss Lee Clark. Collison, 25, spent several weeks training with Town and played two games for the U21s.

“He's just training with us for a couple of days,” Clark told the Birmingham Mail. “I know his agent very well.

“When there is a player like Jack Collison on the open market, he is a terrific footballer, obviously there's going to be interest.

“But we have just let him come in and train with us, to have a look. There’s nothing imminent in terms of potential signings etcetera.

“I know his agent very well, I have done for many years. We had a conversation and it is to no cost to us. Jack has footed his own expenses to come in and train.”

He added: “I think he has got a deal in the offing from Ipswich, which he is mulling over. Like I said, we’re just having a look.”

Speaking about Collison last week, Town boss Mick McCarthy said: “He has been about. I think he’s got other options and he’s going to go and have a look elsewhere.

“I said I was cool with that, whatever he wants to do. If it works out for him, great. If it doesn’t, I’ll still have a look at him."

Any deal on the table at Town is likely to be a short-term contract, similar to the one signed by Darren Ambrose last week.

Nothing better than a good mull

Do we need him now? Our midfield options are looking good and I love the fact teddy bishop is playing and think that maybe collison coming in might limit his first team action which would be a real shame. Plus I wouldn't imagine his wages would be cheap unless we get him on a 'pay-as-you-play' deal.

So if he has a great deal offered by Town why is he toutng himself around other Clubs? Suspect playing football is not his primary concern.

Arnie... who ever said it was a 'great deal'
It's his only offer so far, probably 'pay as you play' or not that lucrative
Get real, the bloke has to earn as good a living as he can in the short career that pro football is...

Why thank god LiamCP123 have you seen him in action for the U21's?? Hestill a capable player at this level, obv injury depending. From what I understand he is able to manage his knee injury in the same way ledley king used to. Would still be a decent addition in my opinion

Liam is probably another of the wallys that comments on here that never goes to a game or has seen a player perform. Deffo a good option for the midfield given that Skuse is out of form.

Let him mull as long as he wants don't think we need him injury prone and just the fact he's even considering signing for Birmingham shows he's prob not good enough for us

NGU the gereralcopinion from fans (of both teams) managers (of both teams) pundits and press alike is that we were 2nd best for 30 mins and and the btter side from then on, perhaps you were watching a diffret side, clearly when wqtching Berra you have been watching a diffrent player to the rest of us, are you sure you're not watching Ipswich Utd by mistake?

Blueandtrue - It's definitely Town that i have been watching. I think we had good spells but on the whole i thought we were lucky to get 3 points. Regarding my comment about Berra, i probably used the wrong word when i said overrated, but its frustrating seeing everybody get so excited about him just because he has scored a couple of goals.

Dunno why I got minuses for saying that collison is a capable player at this level, yea he has injury problems that can be managed, but if fit hd would def be as good, if not better than what we have.

NGU,I think that you will find that most people think Berra can defend quite well,as well as score goals.
I do not think we need Collison(or Williams) now.

Jabberjacson. See the above report! The Brum manager was quoted to have said this as he knows Collisons agent personally. Whilst I accept this could be the agents job to get the best deal for the player....and his own pocket , youd have to ask why the player having been here for 2 weeks is mulling it over whilst hes moved onto another club. I stand by my comment.

As for getvreal its a short career claptrap. Show me any "job" where your income let alone the actual job is secure. Maybe the person not in the real world is YOU!

A good signing he would be, but only if he could stay fit and we had him on a pay-as-you-play deal.

if you are lucky enough to be given a talent that you have worked really hard to turn into a marketable commodity, I don't begrudge them thinking long and hard before they accept the first offer though..
having said that, my retraction still stands

BlueMikey - The only goosebumps i get watching Town is if theres a bit of a chill up in the stands. Nothing exciting about watching this joke of a team. I dont know why i bother attending games, but i guess i just have Town embedded in me.

Kind Regards,

NGU I was thinking something should be embedded in you alright. And not in a nice way.

NGU. You have a point in a twisted way, but put so negatively. That is probably because you go to more matches than me.
The atmosphere at the match was terrible before the match and for the first 30 minutes.
It's like a 15,000 scorned lovers trying to give their 11 men another chance but struggling to let their fragile heart into the control of the team.
We were lucky to not be one or two goals down at half time, so in that respect you could say we were lucky to win.
Actually Millwall were pretty poor in the second half and we were showing promising signs.
How many teams do you see every year that you are really impressed by? For me I'd say only 2 or maybe 3. Right now I don't think anyone would say we are one of the best 3 teams in the league, so maybe we shouldn't be judging with such high standards. It's like a 5 with no money thinking he can go out with a beautiful 9.
Anyway, I think most people could only really expect to see some kind of improvement and some positive signs, so with those criteria then I think most people would agree that the Millwall game was a good outcome.
