McCarthy Not Thinking About Williams Too Often
Monday, 15th Sep 2014 13:12

Boss Mick McCarthy says he’s not spending too much time wondering whether Jonny Williams will be made available for loan. The 20-year-old Crystal Palace midfielder spent a highly successful spell with the Blues towards the end of last season.

The Blues are understood to be amongst three or four Championship clubs to have made their interest known, but with Palace currently keen to hold onto him.

Asked what his gut feeling was regarding the likelihood that Williams would be made available for loan, he said: “I haven’t got a gut feeling, I don’t think about him too often. That’s because we’re doing OK. There’s no point in me spending too much time on it.

“Everybody knows what would happen if somebody were to say we could have him on loan - I’d take him. Everybody knows that, and by the way so would 23 other Championship clubs, they’d be no different.

“I’m not telling you anything different than I have all along, but he was a sub and he got on on Saturday and so he’s part of their plans.”

Palace manager Neil Warnock, who brought Williams on in the 75th minute of the Eagles’ 0-0 draw with Burnley, has reiterated that he has no immediate plans to send the Wales international out on loan: "I don't want Jonny to go until I've had a good look at him.”

As much as I would like to believe MM on this, he must be wishing Williams would come in, he clearly helped us push on in the later half of last season, and he's an incredible asset to any championship side

A class act, as anyone who has watched him play for ITFC last season would surely agree
It might hold back Teddy a tad, but probably for the greater good!

As I and others have previously said, with the emergence of Teddy Bishop the need for us to
sign Jonny Wiliams short term seems to have disappeared-as good as he is.
If Palace decide he is part of their plans the decision is out of Micks hands.

Yawn... Zzzzz. Fed up of reading about Williams, for me it seems likely he will stay with palace. Move on, plenty of other creative midfielders about.

Would love to get Williams back, but he himself has stated that he wants to play in the Premiership for Palace and as long as he gets to do that and as long as Warnock wants to have a look at him and play him, there is no way either one of them will be interested in a loandeal to any team.

McGoldrick and Murphy with Williams just behind would give everything they need going forward and MM could still fit Bishop in just behind.

Would love to have him back but not sure we really need him as much as some think. He only came in last season coz of injury to Didzy to provide the creativity, but with him now fit and the emergence of Bishop and arrivals of Henshall and Bru, added to the better form of Hyam and Anderson is he really needed? Plus got Stewart to come
