Former Skipper Edwards Facing Surgery
Monday, 22nd Sep 2014 16:32

Former Blues skipper Carlos Edwards is facing surgery and could be out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury during Millwall’s 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The 35-year-old joined the Lions on a one-year deal in the summer after being released by the Blues, following a loan spell at the end of last season.

Millwall physio Bobby Bacic told their official site: "Carlos has had a scan earlier today and, as feared, it has shown that he has significant knee ligament disruption, involving the cruciate and lateral ligaments. He has also sustained a rupture to the hamstring muscle.

"Carlos will be seeing a specialist tomorrow with a view to surgery. We will update further in the week."

Sounds serious. Not good news and I wish Carlos all the best and a speedy recovery. Let's hope he plays again. Good servant to the club.

A terrible injury at this stage of his career a younger player could recover and play again but I feel this is the end for him all the best Carlos.

What horrible news. It was good to see Carlos down here with Millwall last week, he was playing a comfortable role and still looked useful. I can't imagine how he must be feeling at this news. Let's hope that he has a good coaching career to look forward to, if he stays in the game after this injury, he didn't deserve to end his playing career like this.
I'm sure all Town fans will send him their best wishes.

Bit heartless Ipswich4life. He's a former captain, Kevin Beatie, John Wark and Terry Butcher aren't ipswich players any more either but I'd like to think we all wish them well. You're clearly worng too because it's had 6 or 7 comments inside an hour of hitting the site.

Really sorry to hear that about Carlos. Hope he recovers quicker than expected and doesn't call it day like this, he's always been super fit and I'd have expected to see him for several more seasons yet. All the best.

Lol are you really comparing Edwards to the legends you mentioned ?

Sadly a player of that age is always going to be prone to injuries like that, and this does justify why Mick released him at the end of last season.

Gutted to hear it though, the guy was probably one of the only players from the Keane and Jewell eras that actually wanted to play for ITFC. Lets just hope the surgery is successful and he makes a quick recovery from it. All the best Carlos!

Minuses for wishing a former player well, I'm not one to complain but.... KB I assume you're keen to see Carlos out of the game

ipswich4life - Considering the article headline is fairly self explanatory, you are aware that you weren't forced to read it, nor were you forced to comment. Maybe next time you could just ignore it rather than a petty dig?

If some people find it newsworthy, then it's newsworthy!

Get well soon carlos, as has been previously said he was a great servant to the club and a great guy. Could prob still have offered something this season as well, fear this could be the end of his career now at 35, what a sad way to go out. Get him back in a coaching role

Gutted for Carlos. My favourite player of the last few years. Hoping he can come back quicker than expected.

As for ipswich4life...if you're not interested then don't comment...

Ipswich4life - words don't fail me but were I to use them on this site I would be in trouble!!
I wish Carlos a speedy recovery and hope it's not a career ending injury. He might not be up with some of the legends mentioned elsewhere but he was a good servant, good humoured and the reception he got from the fans when he returned with Millwall shows he was appreciated.

bluesandtrues - maybe you should read my comment before the public dissing. And maybe the inventors of this blog should allow for thicker-than-average fingers, and give us an undo button.

Joining the majority in wishing him a speedy recovery. The reception he got both before and during the Millwall match speaks volumes about the esteem in which he's held here, and his response shows it's clearly reciprocated. Hope he's able to play again in time.

Oh Gawd. Not sure his age has anything to do with the injury itself but it sounds like a nasty one. The danger for Carlos is that these injuries can hamper speed when a player returns which for a wide player can be a greater issue-Arsenal fans have similar concerns over Walcott. Get well soon Carlos and im sure he'd be welcomed back as backroom staff-heck i sure he'd make a cracking fitness coach!
